The girl lazed against the wall, one muscly leg dangling off of the sill she sat atop. She was several stories up, having climbed the building to snatch unsuspecting birds. Now, after eating, she was content just relaxing in her place on the cool stone, her kitten-eared beanie resting on her lap. Narissa's outfits varied daily -- often she was seen with her hair up in a braided bun tucked nicely into her cat-eared beanie, her fingerless gloves with three nine-inch metallic claws that sprouted from the spaces between her knuckles intact, and Gabriel's militaristic suit jacket almost dragging across the ground near her frayed jeans and sneakers. However, just as often Narissa May wore adorable frills; she loved dresses and wore ribbons as headbands and had her hair nicely displayed. These were the times she wore knee-high socks despite any sort of heat, for the child wished not to allow observation to her scars. Sometimes, Narissa was distraught over their origin. She wanted them to be self-inflicted to make the accusations pointed against her correct, but they weren't and never had been.
After developing real scars from a real conflict, Narissa May had never once contemplated hurting herself. Well, that wasn't true. She had considered many things, but she kept them to herself. To herself, smothering others with smiles and affection to love away any pain anybody else felt, to keep them to herself. She was largely volatile in her demands -- Narissa May wanted love and attention, but only from the people she adored. Strangers were kind, but Narissa didn't fancy their eyes on her. She wanted her brothers to look at her, because anybody else only saw the three scars deeply set across her face. Draping over her left eye, they imperfected the bridge of her nose, her lips, and traveled down her neck. They ended their race after crossing her chest and right breast, at her ribs. They were thick, like the claws of a canine animal, and nobody would think a nine-year-old could live through a wound like that. The truth told that she hadn't lived through it. This scar killed Narissa Cole, but she didn't know that. She only knew she'd been attacked by wolves and unconscious for three days.
Consequently, the only sort of makeup Narissa ever wore was concealer.
Even in hot weather such as today, she wore her brother's jacket, too. Not only did it make her happy, but it served an ulterior purpose. One Narissa forgot about when the scent of feline invaded her unsuspecting nose. She opened her olive eyes and looked about, a sharp-toothed smile claiming her countenance when she noted a blond male, strides away from the building she'd asserted as her nap spot. Was it he, who smelled of feline origins? Was he another shapeshifter, just like her? Narissa had a knack for intuition, and her inability to shift did a great deal to ameliorate her other five senses, so she knew she was probably right. Putting her beanie on in preparation, Nari scaled artistically down to the window ledge closest to the ground, then crouched. She waited until he was close enough to pounce, intending to playfully knock him down onto the sidewalk. The smell of feline, most dominantly, wild cat, struck her curiosity the closer that she got. When she made her abrupt move, the beanie drooped over her eyes, provoking a giggle from the girl as she fixed it.
"My name's Narissa May!" she blurted, looking down to her victim. She sarcastically continued. "Most people prefur to call me Nari, beclaws I guess there's something about saying 'Narissa-May Leijona Elaine Cole' that people don't like." Narissa had made cat puns for so long that she often forgot most strangers would be taken aback by it. They were something Narissa loved doing to be different... And just because she held a fond adoration for cats. They were pawsitively elating for Narissa, bringing a litter more joy into her own day. Was it so bad to do something for herself, regardless of how strange it may seem to outsiders? Narissa didn't think so. Actually, this was untrue, for when it came to herself, she felt that anything she did was self-centered. But, nonetheless, the girl beamed at Loki, exuding titillating emotions.

“Are you serious? He cancelled?” Loki could hardly believe what he was hearing on the other end of the phone. Loki wasn't normally one to get upset over a client cancelling a meeting with him. Cancellations were not too uncommon in his line of work. Clients either chickened out, found other ways to get their information, or went missing from time to time. But sudden cancellations like this still got on his nerves. He had already wasted his time coming to the designated meeting spot only to just now to get the call that the guy he was suppose to meet would show up. “So I guess that's it for the day then. I don't have anyone else booked, unless there are any last minute entries....yeah, I didn't think so either. Alright I will call it in early today. Call me if you need me.” With that he hung up, let out a heavy sigh, and started walking. His client might have bailed on him today but at least now he had some free time. How would he spend it?
Loki stared at the ground as he lost himself in thought. There was nothing wrong about taking it easy for the day, he could head home and spend the day watching anime until Azazel showed up. But before he went home he could stop by one of the bakeries to pick up a treat. The little feline had a big sweet tooth. While he usually made most of his desserts himself it never hurt to buy some premade cake else where. There were plenty of good cake shops to choose from in this particular district. Loki had been to every single one at least once since he came to New Orlands months ago. Now which one should he go to today? Loki's mind was so wrapped up in cake shops that he failed to notice someone watching him. It was too late by the time said someone jumped him. Loki let out a surprised yowl before tumbling to the ground with his assailant on top. His heart nearly leap out of his chest in that moment. For a second he thought Gil or someone just as dangerous had gotten the better of him and he was moments away from getting devoured...
But it wasn't Gil...or anyone like that...it was a girl.
Wait...what?
At first he thought he might be seeing things, but when he closed his eyes and opened them again he still saw a pretty girl in an oversized jacket smiling down at him. Was this pretty little thing friend or foe though? She didn't seem to be pinning him down just to kill him. She didn't have any visible weapons and she wasn't holding him down hard enough to be strong enough to actually hurt him. Though this girl was not human. She had the scent of a shifter on her, a feline one too but it was a strange scent that he couldn't identify, like she was a strange mix of different felines rolled into one. When she started to introduced himself Loki started to relax, he even chuckled a bit at her interesting introduction. He wasn't in any danger today. It was a nice change of pace for once. A loud, throaty purr rose out of the feline as he smiled at his captor. “It's nice to meet you Nari. I'm Loki. You can call me whatever takes your fancy. Heh, I must say its a pleasant surprise to be pounced on by such a purrty thing for a change.” he gave her a little wink, knowing that she might his little pun. “Do you pounce on every guy you meet or just the good looking ones?”

Her smile didn't stagger. In fact, it only grew when he blinked, the boy clearly confused. His words told her that he had been used to much more hostile assailants, and she felt a bit bad for pouncing on him the way she had. Narissa rarely thought things through -- she hadn't considered the "ifs" of her situation, because where was the harm in having fun? Now though, Narissa considered the outcomes she could've faced. What if he would have gone on the offensive and tried to hurt her? What if he'd been in worse situations and she scared him into defense mode? Thoughts like this didn't materialize in her mind until things were said and done, and Nari often mentally paid for it. Especially when it came to sticking up for people that she shouldn't stick up for. She was a bleeding heart to a mind that was prone to bad ideas in a body that people assumed they could overrule her with. Narissa May was petite indeed, but there was a reason she could knock Loki down. It helped she'd had leverage from the window sill, but she was far heavier than she appeared. Narissa May was pure muscle.
A body of vicious muscle and brute strength that giggled again at Loki's words. Her olive eyes lit up at her new friend's cat pun, and her cheeks tinted with red. She wasn't used to compliments, only used to giving them. She looked down at the sidewalk to hide her blush, strands of hair falling over her eyes. Narissa May furrowed her brows and made an effort to alight from Loki. When she stood, the short girl removed her beanie and held it under her arm as she took apart her intricate hair style. Olive eyes regarded Loki warmly as Narissa's long red hair cascaded messily down her frame. She felt her chest explode in pure joy at his purr. She was always so timid when it came to purring. She knew how weird other people saw purring. Narissa May would have brought this fact up, had he not shamelessly flirted with her, and then himself. "I pounce on the easy targets," she rebutted whimsically, taking part in his game. He was one of those types, eh? How fun! Nari gingerly finger-combed her candy-coloured tresses, the curls that formed making it insufferably knotty and laborious to smooth. When Narissa May felt her hair was adequately -- or at least, sort of -- ready to be braided again, she began to plait her shiny red locks as she gabbed, putting little effort into the appearance of the disheveled braid.
"What a nice name, Loki. Pleasure to meet you! Sorry about my hair... And catching you off guard. It's not efuryday I see another shapeshifter. Especially not a feline one!" Narissa bounced in place, her voice eagerly amplified the longer that she talked. Twisting her braid behind her, she fastened it back into a neat bun, all the while her grin remaining obstinate in place. When she stationed the beanie back where it belonged, she extended a svelte arm to Loki, holding her hand out to shake. She couldn't help the curiosity that crept into her mind, assigning itself as primary consultant for anything Narissa May could say next. The diminutive red-head did what she was capable of to offset the inquiries that bombarded her mental barracks, but she just had so many questions all of the time. Nari wanted to know everything there was to know, and the only way to learn was to ask! The girl bit her lip, mindful of Loki's kindness. For someone who seldom premeditated her measures, she had learned to be quite careful with words. They had the capacity to throw Narissa into quite a bit of trouble.
So, with all of her caution intact, Narissa decided to toy with him anyhow, in the way a kitten batted the tails of its littermates. Hands on hips, she gave him a questioning look, as genuine as she could muster. "You seemed surprised to see me. I would think pretty girls pounced on you all of the time!" she stated, finding it hard to compliment herself even if it was insincerely. Regardless, Narissa had to admit that she found him cute. He was nice, too, and that was a massive plus. The teen hadn't met too many kind strangers in her life; she did her best to avoid them now. It was a conflict she battled everyday, between wanting to befriend everybody and wanting to stay away. She wished herself to be less outgoing, to be less friendly, but she couldn't do it. Narissa May couldn't -- and furthermore, wouldn't -- risk hurting anybody's feelings, as she genuinely believed they all had the best intentions at heart. Some were just clouded by their own pasts, and Narissa could empathize. Consequently she took it upon herself to be a light in the darkness, no matter her own perils.

It would have been a lie to say that Narissa's surprise attack did not catch him off guard. Given the boy's luck with random encounters in the past it was easy to get at least a little scared when someone pounced on him out of the blue. He didn't have any time to react after he fell, it was far too late for him to grab one of his knives to defend himself with, it might even be too late for him to attempt transforming for the chance that his opponent might lose their hold on him long enough for him to escape. If this had been an enemy he would have been screwed. But this wasn't an enemy for once it was someone else. A girl. Once he was realized that and got over his initial shock the boy actually smiled and laughed it off. He didn't know if he should thank his old gods or the god of this world for giving him some good luck for a change. The boy's fear vanished in an instant to be replaced with a smile. It was safe to say that he wasn't in any danger. This girl seemed friendly enough so he had nothing to fear. When she introduced herself he did the same, with a little purr and a cat pun (she seemed really into cat puns) for good measure. The reaction he got back was definitely amusing. The feline's smile turned a little more devious than it had been before when he saw her cheeks turn red. He just loved making cute girls blush.
“...If you didn't succeed in catching me off guard so easily I would have challenged you on calling me an easy target. Looks like you win, for now.” The shifter gave a little wink in regards to her answer. Once Narissa got off him Loki stood up and dusted himself off, the boy continued to purr and chuckle when the lovely looking red head complimented him. “Thank you my dear. You have a lovely name too. A lovely name for a lovely girl.” the boy gave her another little wink. He was sure he would be able to get her to blush again if he kept the compliments coming. If that didn't work he was bound to kick it up enough, after all getting girls to blush was something he was very good at and was quite fond doing. “Don't worry about it. Your hair looks lovely as it is, and its my own fault for not paying attention to my surroundings. Since you haven't tried to rip my throat out you've done nothing wrong to apologize for.” the boy smiled again when Narissa pointed out what he was.
“Oh really? I guess other shifters are still rare even in a place like this, but they aren't too hard to find if you know where to look.” Out of all the places Loki had ever been to in this world New Orlands was the one city with the highest concentration of supernaturals he had ever been to. That didn't make finding other shifters easier to find though. Loki was able to find a few, the guys he had working with him were mostly shifters of all kinds but they were a small group, there weren't enough of them to make them easy to find. “My specific breed is pretty rare though. I have yet to run into another from my breed. You though are pretty interesting. I've met a few other shifters in my time but none of them have had a scent nearly as interesting as yours. I can tell you are a feline but you smell like so many different kinds of feline that I can't tell what you are.” Just what was Narissa? Loki was normally good at picking up on what kind of animal shapeshifters he ran into were. He could tell what their true forms were before he ever saw them. But with Narissa he couldn't. She definitely piqued his curiosity.
He was sure he would get an answer eventually whenever his new companion was willing to give him the details. For now he was content with the conversation they were having. He couldn't help but chuckle when Narissa pointed out he shouldn't be surprised to have girls pouncing on him all the time. “Girls do pounce on me quite often, though not quite as literally as you have. That's one of the downsides living in a place mostly inhabited by humans. Its hard to find other cats to play around with. At least it makes meetings like this all the more fun. Don't you agree?”

I am a lion and i want to be free
do you see a lion when you look inside me?
Narissa crossed her baggy-sleeved arms over her chest, meeting Loki's cheeky expression with skeptical eyes. He was right, she'd had the advantage for his lack of attention, but that was part of the subliminal lesson. Pay attention. Narissa got the feeling that Loki wasn't the most underground person -- in fact, she felt an aura of danger in his wake. Not that he was dangerous, per se, but that he... Ran into it frequently. Narissa May supposed that the same could be said for her. She wasn't a dangerous predator, lurking for her next victim, but she got into a fair amount of trouble. So did the rest of her damned family, though, so at least Narissa wasn't totally alone.
The red head blushed a bit deeper when he complimented her name, though her reaction was much different. Nari simply rolled her eyes and sighed, readjusting her beanie. What a sweet talker. She did, however, smile at the compliment to her hair, for she felt that it was genuine. Narissa received frequent comments and compliments on it because of the eccentric colour it donned, so this wasn't new, but she appreciated it nonetheless. The teen wasn't the type to care much for appearance on other people, or really herself, but she did keep herself clean and well-kept as much as possible... And the scars she tried desperately to hide were an exception. Narissa saw through appearances and fell in love and befriended personalities, not looks, but she would be lying to herself if she said she wasn't self conscious about the three large scars across her face.
It was the only thing that made Narissa think twice about talking to strangers. She could handle the teasing of her height and weight and sense of style, but those scars just... Killed her. Literally. Something awful had befallen the girl, and the scars were a constant reminder of her deepest fears. Narissa May tried to remind herself that the opinions of sheep never bothered the lion, but it made it worse to remember that she wasn't a lion anymore. God, she was such a train wreck. Nari licked her lips to remind herself where the presence was, shifting the weight of her paltry body onto one leg as she listened to Loki intently. He was talkative, but Narissa had to admit that she liked it. Her brothers weren't the most exciting people in terms of storytelling, despite having plenty of stories to tell. Nari, who also wasn't one to be long winded, ended up being the talkative one. It always made her feel awkward, talking to much. She preferred to listen.
Politely waiting for him to finish, Narissa gifted Loki with another warm smile. He was right, finding shifters was easy. Finding cats really wasn't. Thankfully, she had a brother who was just as feline in shifting as she was, except he could actually use his abilties. It made her a bit sad when he indirectly asked her what her form was, but it did make the teen smile when he said she smiled like feline. "Yeah! I try to make as many furriends a pawsible for that reason..." Narissa licked her lips again, this time out of nerves. It was the only thing that gave away her slight discomfort. "If your nose works right, you should be smelling all of the big cats." Narissa pressed her lips into a thin line and nodded, grinning with her eyes. She didn't want to tell him that she could shift into those forms, because she wasn't able to, but she didn't want to admit that she used to be able to do it. Nari didn't know for sure if she could shift into a wild cat or house cats, but lions, tigers, pumas, leopards, cheetahs, and et cetera were a definite yes.
The red head quickly brought the attention back to his cheekiness toward females. "That may be true, but how many of them make cat puns?" Narissa May jested.i CAN'T SLEEP, THERE'S A WAR INSIDE MY HEAD
i FOUND A LION HIDDEN RIGHT BENEATH MY BED

Narissa May was a fascinating creature. Maybe it was because of the way she introduced herself to him, how she liked to talk in cat puns, or the fact she was the first female shapeshifter he had encountered since Amalia, but she had quickly drawn this ones interest. It was a nice change of pace conversing with someone that wasn't trying to kill him for a change. Talking to another girl also brought back his flirtatious side. Ah, he missed making the ladies blush more than he thought. It was especially easy with this one. Even as she rolled her eyes at his compliments he could still see that faint tinge of red. Whether she believed what he said or not didn't matter in the grand scheme of things, she still liked what he had to say. It was only natural. All girls liked compliments, and Loki liked giving them to them. In her case he meant them. Loki could be a bit manipulative when he needed to be when he flirted, but most of the time when he did he was genuine about the things he said. He liked her name, as long as it was. It faintly reminded him of the old titles he used to hear back home from those of noble birth. He liked her hair too. It was a very pretty shade of red one didn't see often in the city. With the way she kept blushing he was sure to keep going. There would be plenty of opportunities to do that depending on how long she stuck around him. As the conversation changed though he had to pull back a little bit. He couldn't get to know who Narissa was by flirting with her all the time now could he? At the moment he was curious about what Narissa was. It was obvious to see from the reason she pounced on him in the first place that she was some kind of supernatural. Her scent gave her away as a shifter, a feline shifter at that. But as to what kind of feline he could not tell. That was a bit of a surprise for him. Loki knew a lot of shifters that smelled of one kind of creature. Most of them, like himself, only had one animal that they could turn into. Thus why they smelled of only one beast. Finding one whose scent he couldn't pick out right away was strange. Nari gave him answer to his nagging question of sorts. Her delivery of it was strange though. Most shapeshifters when asked what they could turn into were more than happy to say it outright. Even those with multiple forms were completely fine with going into detail on what they could do. Narissa however was a bit vague. Loki's keen eyes caught the slight hint of discomfort from the little female. Something was wrong here. He did not show he was onto her though. He dared not show his thoughts when it came to touchy subjects. It was not his place to pry into the life of someone else when he didn't need to. Loki was curious but he was not heartless. “Ah yes, I can smell it now.” the boy said, giving the girl a little sniff for good measure. “I don't know many big cats, I've only met a few of them but I can smell their scent on you. I am a little envious, of you bigger cats. You are so much stronger than someone like me no matter what form you are. Now I know why you knocked me down so easily before.” He almost hesitated to say what he did with her. If his suspicions were correct there was a chance such innocent remarks might hurt her. But not being honest would reveal that he was onto something if he was right. There was no right answer to this so for now he feigned ignorance. At least he wouldn't press her on it when she did change the subject. She really did seem interested in how many girls approached him. Well, more on how different her approach was compared to theirs at least. He smiled and gave her a little wink in response. “You are the furst to do that my dear. As far as I can remember I would say you are on the top for the most entertaining encounters. Congrats!”
