Nova unwrapped the bandages around Alierah's less massacred arm, shaking his head in the most criticizing way. "Still can't believe you stabbed yourself nine times," he mumbled, however untrue it was. He believed it, because Alierah was f*cking creepy, but he couldn't grasp the concept of somebody, no matter how supernatural, stabbing themselves nine times to prove a point, and then driving the knife further up their arm to cause an even bigger wound.
She gave him a condescending look. "You still can not believe that me, Alierah the Hellhound, stabbed myself? It is not like it would have killed me." She yanked her arm away when Nova went to inspect the wound, then begrudgingly settled it back down.
Nova let her pull away, gently grabbing her arm when she was comfortable again. "Said the girl who dropped a person on my couch and then fell face first onto floor! Obviously it does something to you," Nova rebuked. He wiped off the wounds, dreading the moment he had to take care of her other arm. Alierah was fidgeting, visibly uneasy with allowing somebody besides herself near her weak points. She didn't show it in her face, but the way she flinched every time Nova made any sort of movement toward her arm made it clear.
"I would have awoken when they stopped bleeding." Alierah finalized. After Nova began wrapping up her arm again, she tore the bandage from his hand and finished the job herself. "You take too long," was her excuse.
He sighed. "You may be inhuman, and your wounds may heal fast as sh*t, but not that fast." Pulling his hands back at her action, Nova simply started going to work on the other arm without pressing the matter anymore. Alierah opened her mouth in the beginning of a protest, but she knew it was moot. Her arms were so incredibly sore that she would only make them bleed again with any effort she put on them.
"Why do I have to wear these? They are not bleeding, they have already started to close, and I do not plan on using them anytime soon," the hellhound fussed. She was so damn whiny. "Except maybe to strangle Akeelah."
Nova rolled his eyes and peeled the wrap off slowly, black goo, blood, and dead skin coming with it. "This. This is why you have to wear bandages. You don't have pus, you have this gross demonic sh*t going on and it would probably get all over your clothes." the young man set the bandages aside and went to work on cleaning. "From what I know of hellhounds, these also should've been almost entirely closed up the day after the incident. There's something wrong with you, and I'm trying to fix it."
Alierah bit her lip and yanked her arm away one final time, grabbing a bandage and quickly finishing the job despite her sore muscles. "All of the stabs went totally through, this stab wound is like six inches long, not every hellhound heals the same. I am going to go talk to Akeelah." Before Nova could protest, Alierah was gone down the hall. Nova shook his head and gathered the bandages to throw away.

Alierah was so sick of Nova's babying. It's not like he was constantly on top of her and being a hover parent, but at least once a day he made her sit down so he could probe her wounds like a damn scientist. What the fuck did he mean, something was wrong with her? She was a literal spawn of Hell, nothing could be wrong with her. Nova had no clue what he was talking about, and Ali thought he should keep his nose in his stupid supernatural hunting.
If there was somebody Nova should be concerned about, it was Akeelah. Though it was clear that Nova was worried about her, there was no pleasing Alierah in this sense.
When she arrived at Akeelah's room, she lightly knocked on the door and pressed her cheek to the wood. "Akeelah-kitty? I am coming in." She waited a moment for a response. She was coming in no matter what, but she figured she'd at least give Akeelah a minute to respond.

What time was it? Akeelah had no idea or any reason to really care how much time had passed since she had woken up. Like most days Akeelah couldn't find the will to get up out of bed when she did wake. The only time she did was when she heard one of the cubs crying, or if she was literally dragged out by someone else. Today was no different. She had curled up under the covers and had only risen when the babies wanted something. She had yet to leave the room, nor did she want to. It was...hard dealing with the aftermath of her attempted suicide. It had been days since the incident had occurred. Her wounds were already closing up, but everyone's reaction to what she had tried to do to herself wasn't so easily overcome as her physical injuries. Everyone had lost it after Alierah had dragged her body back. Some were angry or just upset.
As for her...Akeelah ended up doing what she always did as of late. She shut down. After recovering (for the most part) from the ordeal she became a shut in again. She didn't say or do much, besides promise never to do what she did again. She did mean what she said though. She was never going to try and end her life again. There was no point in trying anymore. She had failed the one chance she had, now everyone was on high alert. Besides, what she had done had ended up hurting everyone else. She just couldn't win. She was a burden dead or alive so why bother? Akeelah didn't move or make a sound when she heard a knock on her door. Whoever it was would come in regardless of what she said. When the person spoke she knew exactly who it was. Alierah. The shifter stiffened underneath the covers. She didn't know how she was going to face Alierah after everything that happened.

Alierah twisted the knob, even that movement causing a bit of discomfort. The girl was already seconds from angrily tearing the bandages from her arms, they were so fucking annoying. Instead of this, Ali closed the door behind her and stood in front of the door way, watching Akeelah. How was she going to deal with this... Situation? That was all Alierah saw it as. Akeelah was unhappy, Akeelah tried to kill herself, and now she was laying in bed. That's all. It was safe to say Alierah was the least concerned about Akeelah in the sense that she couldn't grasp the concept of wanting to die, and assumed Akeelah wouldn't try again. Perhaps this made Ali an idiot, but she just wanted her friend to be happy, not want to die. Ali didn't exactly get how dying would solve any problems, anyway. Didn't her feline friend want to be there to watch those who hurt her burn?
Ali took a step forward and brushed her hair from her face. "What is the matter? Are you hungry? I caught a deer this morning... There is still some left." Alierah didn't want to talk about Akeelah's attempted suicide. What was the point? It was in the past. Instead, she tried to win over her friend's gaze. The quickest way to Alierah's heart was most definitely food, and so why would Akeelah be any different? "Do leopards eat deer?"" The brunette's stomach growled at the thought of the meat, and her eyes faded into a red hue, but she kept herself poised toward Akeelah. It was difficult, but she knew her friend needed her attention... Even if it meant sharing the rest of her lunch.

When Alierah came in Akeelah didn't know what she should do. She knew what Ali wanted from her, and what everyone else wanted from her for that matter. They wanted her to be happy for once, they wanted her to show them that she was alright, that she had her shit together. She knew that she had to seem fine to them. But what was the point in doing so when she didn't feel that way? There was no point in trying to hide the fact that she felt like shit. A part of her was just fed up trying to do things for others so she didn't want to bother. But she didn't know what to do if she wasn't going to bother acting like she was alright. So...she did nothing. She didn't respond at first when Alierah showed up, she didn't even move from her spot. She didn't want to say or do something stupid to cause the hellhound to worry more than she already did, or hurt herself again to prove a point.
But the silence wouldn't last forever, Akeelah was only trying to be careful with her actions, she wasn't trying to act cold. “No, I'm not hungry...I'm just...tired.” when wasn't she tired? Emotionally and physically she was exhausted and that was not going to change overnight. “I used to hunt deer. Its the closest thing to antelope there is around here. But I don't think I can eat that anymore, I don't have the right teeth to eat raw meat like I used to. So no...I guess I don't eat deer anymore.” It was painful to say those words out loud but she had to face the truth. She was losing her animal form. All those months spent having to maintain her human form while she was in hiding, having to extend her own confinement because Gil had managed to piss off another dangerous male had finally taken their toll. She couldn't transform so she couldn't hunt.
“You should finish the rest, it sounds like you could use it more than me.” Akeelah replied, she didn't even need to see Alierah's crimson eyes to know that the hellhound was hungry. A hungry hellhound was a dangerous one, but Akeelah was not too concerned for her safety. Alierah had better control over her instincts than Gil did so she doubted the female hound would start contemplating making a meal out of her. “You should hurry too, I doubt you hid your kill up in the trees to keep it away from scavengers. The longer you wait the faster it will be picked clean...you can come visit again once you are done if you want.” There was a chance that Alierah might take her words as a way of pushing her away but Akeelah didn't mean it that way. Even if she wanted to be left alone that would never happen anymore. If Alierah really wanted to deal with the mess that was Akeelah she was free to do so. She didn't have a say in the matter to care what happened.

Alierah rested her head against the door. She was tired too, which was strange considering hellhounds didn't need a whole lot of sleep. Ali wondered what was going on inside of the petite shifter's mind, if she thought Ali was here out of pity, or in expectation of something. In all honesty, it was the exact opposite. Alierah didn't want anything from Akeelah, except to hunt. She'd had a tough time hunting in her hound form because of her arms. The wounds didn't entirely carry over between forms, but it wasn't like they suddenly disappeared, either. It was just enough of a nuisance to make hunting a real chore. "I understand. I am also a bit tired," Ali confessed.
She made a few steps to the bed and sat at the very edge of the corner, inspecting the lump that was her friend. Alierah smirked and brushed the hair from in front of her eyes. "Are you worried I might try to eat you? Don't fret. I decided quite some time ago that the taste of feline was not for me. Too stringy and muscly and bland. Besides, no animal would dare steal from the scent of a hellhound anyway. Would you?" the brunette's question was a genuine one. Animals were smarter than humans gave them credit for, and though Alierah had no problem eating them, she favored them over their two-legged counterparts any day.
"Well, I would enjoy to hunt with you sometime. I used to hunt with Guillotine and Geikitsu and Cambria, but..." she trailed off, a form of irritation and anger boiling inside of her she was not ready to deal with. "They are not here. If you would like to be alone, I will leave. Trust me, I have no problem leaving you be. Nova, on the other hand, does. He will not leave even my wounds alone." She unconsciously ran a hand along the rough texture of the bandages. "So I figured that if you had the choice, you would choose hunting with me over his fussing. When was the last time you shifted, Akeelah?" Ali didn't usually talk this much, and it made her a bit uncomfortable to do so, but the blue-eyed girl knew Akeelah wouldn't talk much otherwise. That was fine, but Alierah needed a hunting buddy, and if Akeelah couldn't shift anymore, then she was f*cked.

“If you wanted to eat me you would've done so already. You have had plenty of chances to do that. So no. I am not worried.” It never once crossed Akeelah's mind to fear Ali attacking her. Alierah wasn't a harmless puppy or anything like that but she had never presented herself as a threat to the shifter before. The female hellhound was different than her former mate. Ali's instincts took a hold of her in a different way than Guillotine's did, enough so that she could trust that she wasn't in any danger unless Alierah said other wise. “If the scent is there but the owner of it is no where in sight there will be a few takers. Ravens and vultures are never shy to pick a corpse clean even with the one who brought it down if they think the hunter is slow and stupid enough to get away with it. Others if they are desperate enough might still go for it too. I wouldn't, but I am as picky as a cheetah when it comes to food. I don't like eating from a kill I didn't bring down myself.”
That was how it used to be when she could go out and hunt for herself. But those days were gone now. There was a sad look in the shifter's golden eyes as she thought back to the past. She would never hunt again. She knew that but it was still a hard truth to swallow when she had to think about it. Hearing Ali talking about hunting with those she was close to in the past sent another pang of sadness through her. “...I used to hunt with Gil sometimes too...I tried teaching him how to stalk his prey since he was so bad at it...You know how he was. He'd just charge in at the first sight of prey like an idiot, he lost more prey than he could catch like that.” Akeelah fell silent for awhile when Alierah asked her if she wanted to be left alone. Did she want to be left alone? Did it even matter what she wanted? Was the bigger question. At a certain point it seemed that no one really cared what she wanted. Whether she wanted to just get away from her problems or do something for herself someone was always there to screw her over.
She just couldn't win so she gave up trying. That lead her to becoming what she was now. A sad excuse of a person that couldn't decide what she wanted at all. “I don't know what I want so you can choose to stay if you want, if it makes you feel better hanging around at least some good would come from it.” Akeelah couldn't understand why Alierah would want to be around her still when she was like this. Wasn't she just being a burden for Ali? She knew better than to ask about that, she wouldn't have been able to ask anyway now that Alierah steered the conversation on her shifting problem. “I'm not sure...its been...” Akeelah tried figuring out how long on her hands first before answering. “Six months I think. Six months since I have done a successful shifting. While Nova and the others were trying to hide me from the PIDA and Gil I was limited to staying in the house. At the time there were more humans living in the house, and because most of them didn't even know things other than humans exist I couldn't risk shifting in the house. By the time my case with them was closed and I could come out of hiding Gil told me that an enemy of his was lurking around, so I promised to stay in the house until the babies were born.I was already at risk of turning feral by the time he told me this but I tried to hold out longer despite that. Now its too late...I tried sometime after the cubs were born to shift but when I did I was in so much pain I ended up screaming and woke Nova and Spoon up and freaked them out. I haven't tried shifting again since then...I really would hunt with you if I could. I missed the outside world more than you could believe but its not possible anymore.”

Alierah smiled at Akeelah's response. At least her feline companion knew she wasn't going to hurt her. She was a hellhound, but even she had people she didn't want to harm. Gil did too, but he was much worse at keeping his abuse to himself than Ali was. At first, the female hound was confused as to how Akeelah could be so sure and unconcerned given her past, but it was a bit of a similar situation to Alierah's. Geikitsu came from a species of wolf that were specifically designed to hunt and kill hellhounds, but he'd never hurt Alierah. In fact, he'd only ever protected her. Therefore, she did not fear him or see a need to fear him... But the rest of his species? Well, Ali couldn't say she'd have the same optimism. But they were different nonetheless. If Alierah were in Akeelah's position, she would most likely see it the same way. Just because one hellhound was a douche, didn't entail that his sister was a douche in the same way.
Narrow shoulders shrugged. "If they wish to steal my prey, then I will simply hunt again. It will only give me practice." Ali kept her reply short, not wanting to cut Akeelah off, and feeling uneasy about talking so much anyway. It was amazing, the differences between Guillotine and Alierah. He would talk in monologues if people let him, whereas Ali preferred to be direct. What was the point of speaking if it wouldn't improve on silence? She also didn't know that what she said would soon be proven untrue, for her wounds were slowly worsening. She'd become immobile in her hound form in no time, but Ali snorted when Akeelah explained how awful Guillotine was at hunting. "The males usually aren't built for hunting... But most of them are at least competent," Ali emphasized the last word. Gil wasn't a total idiot, but he... He was close.
And then, Alierah felt a pang of empathy for Akeelah. She hadn't shifted in six months? Alierah would've asked if time rendered her unable to shift, but the feline answered that question for her. Ali could tell Akeelah was sad, and she knew for a fact she'd be devastated without her hound form. That was who she was. Not this pathetically weak human body. She wouldn't have reacted the way she did to blood loss in her hound form, but the wounds were sustained while she was bipedal and -- God! Humans were so frail! It was no fault of theirs, being made that way, but Ali revered the day their kind would be dismissed. They idiotically believed themselves to be alone in this world, in all of ever-expanding space and all of the dimensions. Not only were they weak, but they were ignorant as well. Alierah quite enjoyed her job as a collector of souls to bring back to the demons and her Father.
Head titled in confusions, Ali's eyes flicked around the room. "Why is it not possible? I know you feel like shit when you try to shift, but you have to do it sometime. A human is not who you are. You will be happier when you can hunt," Alierah pointed out the obvious, hoping to persuade Akeelah to shift. She didn't want her friend to lose what was her for the rest of her life, and be unhappy over it. What kind of friend would she be if she didn't at least attempt to help Akeelah? Guillotine. She'd be Guillotine.

"If they wish to steal my prey, then I will simply hunt again. It will only give me practice."
Well she couldn't argue with that logic. It was not uncommon for predators to lose their kills to scavengers or other, stronger rival predators in the animal world. As much as losing a kill sucked the only solution there was for that was to go and try again, and keep a better hold of your meal next time. This had never been much of a problem for Akeelah back in the day. Leopards were smart and strong enough to take their prey up to higher ground where most scavengers wouldn't be able to reach it. That didn't stop birds from taking some scraps, but there wasn't a lot left for them to get by the time she was done with them. She nodded in agreement to Ali's comment on male hellhounds. Akeelah was no expert on hellhounds but she had seen enough of the males to see what Ali meant. The males were built to be large and intimidating but they weren't the greatest hunters. They did a lot better if they didn't have to chase their prey for long distances, or if they could get a sneak attack on their victims.
The conversation eventually drifted from hellhounds to something that Akeelah was less comfortable with. She didn't like to think about the loss of her true form but it was only a matter of time before she would have to face it. Someone was bound to find out eventually. There was no point in trying to hide it so she told Alierah the truth. Alierah had been dead silent during the time Akeelah explained to her what the problem was but once she was done she asked the shifter why she didn't keep trying. Well, she should have seen that question coming. How would she answer that thought? “I know. Trust me I don't want to be stuck as a human forever. This block I am having is part of why I did what I did that night...among other things.” Akeelah finally sat up and met Alierah's gaze. “What is...or has happened to me is hard to fix. Trying to shift might not work because it most likely is too late.” Akeelah looked away for a moment while she tried to think of how to explain this properly. She had no idea if hellhounds could get the same condition she had now so there was a chance that Alierah wouldn't understand what she was saying if she didn't explain it properly.
“Like I said before what has happened to me is that I have become feral. Thats the term my kind use for those that have become stuck in a single form. This works both ways, you can become feral as an animal or as a human. When a shifter stays in one form for too long they lose the balance between both forms. The one they have been in the longest takes over completely. Its extremely rare because most of us never get put in a position that we can't transform. When it happens though there is no turning back. I have never seen a feral shifter before but from what I remember hearing about it, its extremely hard to fix.”
“My body must be rejecting my leopard form, that has to be why it hurts so much just trying to take it on.” Akeelah sighed. If only she had more information on this affliction she might find some way of dealing with it. She couldn't even tell if it was already too late fix herself or not. All she knew was she lost the last part of her old self that she had left. Her life was over. When she realized that she felt like she had no reason to live anymore. What was she if she couldn't hunt anymore? How could she even teach her children about her kind and help them with the struggles they might face from their shapeshifting side if she was no longer a shapeshifter? Just thinking about that made her want to die again. But she couldn't even do that right. Akeelah laid back down under the safety of her covers, suddenly feeling drained of what little energy she had left. “There is nothing that can be done about it so don't worry about it. I knew the risks when I chose to hide now I am paying the price. Nothing anyone or I can do will change it.”

"You can't shift if you are dead," Ali simply stated. She felt sympathy for Akeelah, she really did, but her mind did not entertain the complexities of emotions the way most other beings did. Alierah was built to take souls to Hell, shirking the rest of her compulsions and emotions. The woman really only had two emotions; neutrality and the agonizing desire to fuck. Of course, it was no secret that Ali was devastated over her children and Geikitsu, or that she would be elated upon their return, but she didn't think about those things. Knowing this, it was challenging for the female hound to largely comprehend what her friend was enduring. If Ali was losing her hellhound form, she would shift. That was it. No pain would keep her from her true form. The tall brunette would never let her life be governed by solvable trivialities. Why the fuck would it be?
Alierah listened politely through the end of Akeelah's soliloquy, only drawing two conclusions from the entirety of it. One, that Akeelah was still capable of shifting, she was just too afraid of the pain, and two -- she was a pussy. Well, she was a leopard, but a pussy in the sense that she was too scared to step out of her bounds. Attempting suicide was usually out of her boundaries, but as of late, Ali was beginning to notice the shift in her close friend. What was once out of Akeelah's limits were crawling into sight and slaughtering the Akeelah Alierah knew. The hound felt quite selfish at that moment, for having not noticed sooner that her friend was no longer her friend. She was a stranger to herself and those around her, no more familiar than a passerby. Once, Alierah hadn't given a damn. She wasn't weighted by the petty feelings of others; Alierah was soaring through the sky on her own time, in her own mind, as a member of her own world.
She didn't have the time or room for niceties.
"So instead of dying or laying here doing nothing about anything, you are going to come and hunt with me." The hound smiled down at her friend. It was a genuine smile, but easily mistook as condescending. Smiles on Ali's face held a bit of a tendency to imply anything but kindness. The built woman dispensed two pats to the shapeshifters leg amid standing up. She retraced her steps to the door, patiently awaiting her companion. It wasn't everyday that Alierah got the opportunity to hunt with somebody, and although hounds preferred solitude, the woman wasn't about to turn down Akeelah's companionship. Akeelah needed somebody to be there, and Alierah needed to keep her mind off of her children and mate. It was going to be hell trying to run and hunt on her forelegs in hound form, and the blue-eyed girl only felt her wounds worsening, so she needed to hunt before she reached that point.
Ali smiled again, her voice a bit cheerful if not slightly less calmer.. "Come on, Akeekitten. We are going to get you your real form back whether you want it or not."
