Night was on the horizon by the time that Loki made his way for his usual training session in the woods. It was a lot later than he would have liked it to be but that couldn't be helped. The day had been rather hectic and time consuming. By the time he was finished his work the sun was already starting to set. Loki had a personal rule about staying out too late after dark thanks to his natural talent of getting himself into trouble, but for one night he decided to wave the rule to go training. He needed something to do to burn off some excess energy. Besides, training was important. Loki had become an excellent knife thrower in the short amount of time that he started practicing on his own, his skills might even be good enough to defend himself from demon attacks. But was it enough to help him kill if he needed to? That was something that still bothered him. He might be good but he still had a long way to go before he could safely say he mastered the skill. He needed to continue his training tonight. So he started at the usual place, the place that the local rabbits came to feed before retiring for the night.
It didn't take any time at all for Loki to find a little rabbit to use for target practice. The rabbit stood no chance. Even with the massive head start the little shifter gave it by purposefully stepping on a branch to startle the creature to flee all it took was one swift knife throw to bring it down for good. Loki frowned as he came over to look over his kill. This was getting too easy. In the past rabbits at least offered some kind of challenge to him, they were smaller targets to hit, and fast enough that he had to really work for it to practice throwing at a moving target, but now he had outgrown them. Loki sighed as he pulled the throwing knife out of the dead creature's skull. “I need to find something harder to kill.” he mused aloud. But what could he go after? He had already practiced using a variety of rodents that lived in the city or the forest. He knew how to hunt them too well to bother with them anymore. Maybe he had to set his sights a little bigger?
There were a lot of animals in the forest that could make for better targets. Most he hadn't ever considered just because they were not his natural prey. They were either too big or too intimidating looking for him to even think about it. But there had to be something he could hunt, even if he couldn't bring the kill back home with him after he was done. That would be a terrible waste but he would have to figure something out. Loki picked up his kill and moved further into the forest. Hopefully the scent of blood would not drive off too much prey. There was a good chance that the rabbit would be the only thing that he would catch tonight, but at least he could use the time he had to track down something else that he could use for practice later in the week.
