Watching Riku swelling with pride the more Loki praised was an amusing sight to behold. Try as she might the inukami was doing a poor job of hiding it. The bright gleam in her eyes, that brilliant smile, and not so subtle swishing of her tail were reminiscent of a cat that was too full of itself for its own good. Who knew that canines could be such prideful creatures? The shifter could remember the hellhound Guillotine claiming that pride was a distinct canine trait. The boy could hardly deny that, at least Riku's pride didn't seem to make her stupid like that damn rabid mutt so he didn't have any problem with it. It was cute in his own way so naturally he couldn't help but add onto it. He might've done more if it wasn't time for them to start moving. Loki was having fun and all but he still wanted to get out of this damn bayou. He had spent more than enough time here that he just wanted to leave and never come back, and he wanted to do all of that while staying relatively dry. Luckily for him Riku had a plan to help them both get out of the bayou while avoiding the water. Her plan involved a little bit of hopping around through portals. Could he do it? Could he leap from portal to portal without plunging into a watery grave? He seemed to think so. Loki had a lot of flaws. He was short for a boy his age, he was thin, and in comparison to most he was physically weak. He couldn't deny those facts so he didn't bother. While he was open about his weaknesses he was equally aware and quick to point out his strengths. He might not be the strongest guy around but he was certainly the fastest. He could easily outrun his normally bigger and stronger opponents. He was agile too. He could climb up anywhere he wanted no matter how hard they were to get to, his quick reflexes also helped him a great deal in fights. Those natural talents would easily help him with this. He didn't see why they wouldn't unless there was something wrong with Riku's teleporting trick that would completely mess with his senses. He told her as much when she asked him if he was sure he could do this. Riku seemed satisfied with this. She assured him that there would be no side effects for him if he hopped through them. Whether she really believed his words or not he wasn't certain, but the feline was determined to prove himself to her. Riku wasn't the only creature here with a bit of an ego. Loki watched as the inukami threw her hand out to place the first portal into position. He could see the branch they were suppose to land on the other side. Alright, this looks simple enough the boy thought as Riku made the first jump. After getting himself into position, the boy readied himself and leaped through. Yes, this was a lot easier than he thought. He had thought he would at least feel some minor odd sensation leaping through the gap but it didn't feel any different from him jumping from one branch to the next on his own. The only difference was just how far he had gotten using it instead of making the jump on his own. After his first jump it was easier to keep up the pace. It didn't take him long to catch up with Riku, no doubt the female would be pleased by his ability to keep up with her. Despite her telling him that she wouldn't wait for him if he fell behind it was obvious to see that she did care if he did. He was close enough to her that he could see her ears moving in his direction constantly. The sight of it made the shifter chuckle. Within a very short period of time they made it out of the bayou. Loki could see the ground in the last gap he leaped through. The feline landed gracefully on all fours, purring up a storm at the feeling of the soft dry dirt on his paws. Sweet, sweet, dry earth! Oh how he missed it dearly. “That was amazing!” the shifter exclaimed before shifting back to his human form and turning a bright smile at Riku. “Thank you so much for helping me out. It feels so good to be back on land now, and the jumping around like that was better than I expected.”

It didn't take Loki very long at all to match her pace and keep up with her. Rikutsu grinned from ear to ear at this. Her liking of the feline shifter only grew with each passing moment. Like her, he was quick and agile, but by all appearances, he didn't seem to have the physical strength needed if a fight came down to grappling. And while the Inukami could produce powerful, stunning blows in short bursts, she was very much the same. Built for speed, not strength. For a canine type, this in itself was perhaps unique. "Almost there!" she proclaimed as the final gateway revealed the hard-packed earth of the bayou's edge. In the distance rose the treeline of the forest beyond. As she had told him, Loki suffered no ill effects from leaping through her portals, for they were essentially doors. It was as if one was opening a door and walking - or in their case, leaping - through.
Rikutsu landed in a crouch, the last portal snapping shut without a sound after Loki had followed her through. "You're fast. It was no problem at all. And yes, they're also very useful in aerial battles." she told him with a sharp-toothed grin. For a moment, she seemed as if there was something more she wanted to say, molten orbs observing him as he returned to human form, but then, she flicked her tail and straightened into a standing position. She was out of breath, and clenched hands hid the slight tremor of her limbs. Powerful as she may be, those gateways ate up a lot of her energy. Especially with an extra person hopping through.
"Ah, that was fun." was what she said instead, turning to face the trees. In fact, she did have fun. It was always exhilarating when using her gateways. "Well, the forest is just ahead." Obviously. Of course, she tended to point out the obvious. "I guess I'll see you around, ne?" one ear swiveled back in his direction before she turned around to face him with the barest hint of a smile curling her lips. Her eyes revealed more, glittering with that hidden smile. Although, perhaps less vibrant than before, given that she was now rather tired. She said nothing of it, though. Already, she had grown fond of the feline. And she appeared reluctant to part ways. Still, she needed to get back to work soon, lest the humans send some of her supernatural co-workers after her with a net - a rather unpleasant experience, indeed.

It was easy for the shifter to catch up once he got a hang of using the portals. He didn't exaggerate when he said he was quick, this little kitten was an agile one, he knew it, and now Riku knew it too. It was pretty fun jumping around like this. Though Loki was to absorbed in what he was doing to take a chance to look around him as he and the inukami leaped around he could just imagine what it looked like to anything else that happened to see them. Riku had an amazing power, one that he couldn't help but envy a little but he was too impressed and too excited doing what he was doing to have the time to be really jealous. Sadly as soon as their little adventure started it was over. The last portal was opened and both creatures jumped through it. Loki couldn't complain about it. Just the feeling of the earth beneath him sent him into another of his trademark purring fits. God he was happy and the adrenaline still pumping in his veins kept him in a chipper mood.
Loki was still purring when he transformed into a human. Rikutsu seemed to be in a pretty good mood too, though she was a little more reserved in his expressions than he was. The boy couldn't help but chuckle when she commented on his speed. “I told you I could keep up didn't I?” Loki purred like the prideful little cat that he was. He nodded when she mentioned how useful her portals could be in combat. He could easily see the potential her portals would have in a fight. They were more than a good way to escape if the need came for it. They were great for sneaking up on opponents since they didn't make any noise when being produced. Any sort of ranged weapons used in combination with the portals wouldn't even require a lot of aiming if you had a well placed portal or two. But at what cost would it come at though? That was something Loki hadn't considered much until now.
Most powers came at some sort of price. Loki's powers didn't seem to have a lot of flaws. He could transform between animal and human fluidly as often as he wanted but even something so simple as that had its limits. Being both animal and human could be a bit problematic. His feline traits still stuck out in his human form, and his human nature could sometimes conflict with the cat in him. Staying in one form for too long put him at risk of losing his senses and being stuck forever in one form. And silver could lock him in one form as well. He could see the limitations more powerful beings had as well. Azazel though he was a powerful angel could wear himself out if he overexerted himself. An Inukami wouldn't be much different from what he could wager. Riku said that there wouldn't be any side effects for him in using her gateways, but she didn't say anything about how it might effect her. Not a lot of things could slip past the shifter, she might not have mentioned it but he could see that something had changed with her. She seemed a little tired, like with most things she did her best to hide it but Loki could see it in the way she carried herself that she wasn't as perky as she was before.
Hopefully I didn't burden her too much the boy thought. He would hate to leave her behind if she was too weak to carry on by herself. Now that they were in the forest their adventure together would come to an end. If he knew her like he thought he did she would try to shrug him off as soon as she could so she wouldn't have to show weakness in front of him. Sure enough the inukami pointed out it was time for them to get going. “Yeah the way back is in sight now, but I don't see why we can't go together. We are both roughly heading the same direction right?” Loki pointed out. He didn't feel comfortable just leaving Riku by herself if she was weaker than she appeared to be. “As for seeing each other in the future that would be nice. I do come to the forest from time to time to hunt so we might run into each other. Or, if you want to hang out I could just give you my phone number. You can call me any time you want when you are free.”

The feline shifter did, indeed keep up very well. He was fast. Heck, she figured that he might even be faster than she was. That alone would be enough to help him if he ever found himself in a tight corner. When they had finally made it to the edge of the forest, the Inukami discovered that maybe she had expended just a little more energy than she had first anticipated to. That was probably because there had been an extra person using them, and - despite her telling him she would not - she actually had kept an eye out just in case she did have to wait on him. But like she would ever tell him that. Now, she was exhausted. And all she really wanted to do right now was curl up somewhere quiet and sleep.
"Yes, you did say that." she grinned at him when he told her that he was fast, delicate fangs flashing. When he mentioned that they could walk together since they were pretty much going in the same direction, that grin faded away and her ears flickered back against her hair. "Well, err..." she actually had been hoping that he would simply go on ahead. Then, she could find somewhere to collapse for the remainder of the day, but that didn't seem like it was going to happen, was it? Had he seen right through her? Stuffing her hands into the pockets of her jean shorts - where they still shaking? - she pricked her ears and glanced down the trail that would lead them out of the forest. "Yeah...I don't see why not." she shrugged as nonchalantly as she was able to. She took a couple of steps toward the trail, the end of her tail curling under as she glanced at him. "Ah, sure we can exchange numbers." a warmth filled her golden gaze despite how tired she was; the presence of a smile, even though her lips didn't reveal it.
OOC: Sorry it's so short. ><

Something wasn't right. Loki could sense that there was a change in the inukami now that they were finally on dry land. She seemed less energetic than before, despite her best efforts to hide it this little shifter saw it. This wasn't his first time dealing with someone trying to mask their exhaustion. He had dealt with this plenty of times with Amalia, both back in his home world and when she had been alive in this one. The woman had been born with a weak constitution so she grew tired easily and got sick often. She was the reason why he had taken some interest in healing work when he had been younger. He wanted to be able to help her when she was feeling bad. But Amalia wasn't the type to want help. Despite her weakness she always tried to hide it, maybe out of frustration on how others tried to treat her like a delicate flower, maybe she just wanted to pretend she was just like everyone else, Loki didn't know. But she had always fought off helping hands when someone tried to help her. If she couldn't just hide her weaker moments she would get mad with him for babying her.
Thinking about those moments was bittersweet. He couldn't help but see a bit of his old friend in Rikutsu. He was close to telling her to stop faking it and just admit she was feeling a bit tired but he stopped himself. Riku was not Amalia. He didn't have enough of a relationship with her to force her to drop her guard. But that didn't stop him from butting into her business period. He might not be in the position to drag her off to somewhere safer to take a breather but he could at least tag along with her out of the forest and help her get where she needed to go so she could rest in peace. If she didn't agree he might have to be a bit more forceful with her, but luckily for him he didn't need to worry about it. She agreed to let him accompany her, albeit a little hesitantly but at least she agreed to it. The boy seemed rather happy with that. He fell into step with the girl, making sure not to go too fast to burden her more, or too slow for her to feel insulted.
While they walked he tried to keep a conversation going. First thing was exchanging numbers. Riku seemed fine with having his phone number so he dug into one of his pockets and handed her a card with his number already written on it. “Here, I keep things like this around just in case its needed.” he said with a smile as he handed her his card. It was always handy to have his phone number ready and available in his line of work. “Just send me a little text message saying who you are whenever you have the chance and I will save you on my contact list.” Now that that was out of the way Loki tried to keep some dialogue between them as they continued on their way. “So do you do this kind of thing often? Chilling out in the swamp lands, meeting lost, handsome, young strangers along the way?”

Rikutsu never slouched when she walked - someone like her was supposed to walk with confidence, right? And good posture was everything -, and despite her overwhelming urge to lay down right then and there so that she could go to sleep, this time was no different. To all appearances, she seemed perfectly fine. Not tired at all. Humans and even most supernatural creatures would never be able to pick up on the subtle tension in her limbs and shoulders; a telltale sign that she was forcing herself to remain upright.
But Loki did.
The feline had seemed to have some type of internal debate with himself for a moment or two, and now, as they walked, he matched her pace exactly, even though he most likely could of walked on ahead at a much faster pace. Yet, he said not a single word about her fatigue, and for that, the Inukami was grateful. Pride was a big thing for her kind, even if pride could be someone's downfall. That was just how the Inukami were.
"Ah...one thing, though. I still need to figure out how to work those handheld phone things." she suppressed the urge to yawn as she took the card with his number on it and scrunched up her nose in distaste. Cell phones. Ridiculously complicated, little metal boxes with bright screens that had too many unknown options and buttons. How the heck did humans manage use those things all the time? And their young ones appeared to always have their noses pressed to the screens. They were annoying, too, with all the different sounds they made. Her employers had insisted that she get herself a cellphone, in case they needed to contact her and she wasn't at home to answer the landline, but she despised that little device. Which is why she had neglected to carry it on her today. It was troublesome, and if she didn't have it with her, then it wasn't exactly her fault entirely that she couldn't be reached. Right? Oh, the logic of the Inukami.
Loki's voice brought her back from her thoughts, and she raised her head to blink at him. "What?" was she imagining it, or did that kind of sound like flirting to her? The cat was a charmer, wasn't he? With an expression of amusement, she replied, "Well, do you always come swooping in on unsuspecting ladies trying to take a nap?" some of her playfulness seemed to returned, and her tired eyes glinted with mirth.

((Sorry for my slow reply, I have not been in the right state of mind to post as of late x.x))
Loki had to keep a careful eye on this one as they made their way out of the forest. He knew that Rikutsu had worn herself out with her little portal trick to help him get out of the bayou. To the average joe the telltale signs of fatigue would have been hard to spot. The inukami was good at hiding her weakness, but he could see through it. Whether it was from experience of dealing with someone who liked her hide her physical limitations just like Riku, or because of his own habit of hiding his own feelings he couldn't be sure, but either way he could see it. There was no way in hell he was going to leave her alone. The boy had enough courtesy not to confront her about it. Instead he chose to hang back, talk to her while they made their way through the forest. In case she couldn't keep moving anymore he could at least help carry her or something. Anything he could do would be far better than leaving her out here on her own to fend for herself.
If Riku caught on to what he was doing or not he wasn't certain, but at least she was fine with entertaining him for a bit by talking. He chuckled when she mentioned she didn't know how to work a cellphone. “I feel you. Trying to learn how to use human technology can be a pain in the butt in the beginning.” he replied. “Back where I was from we didn't have anything nearly as advanced as handheld phones...we were still sending messages to each other through letters. It took a bit of learning but I can use a cellphone easily. I even learned how to use a laptop. I can surf the web, and picked up a few hacking skills too.” The little feline was quite pleased with his accomplishments in figuring out this worlds technology. “It might be a pain trying to learn how to use that stuff but it can be very beneficial in the long run...I can teach you how to work that kind of stuff if you'd like.”
A mischievous grin graced the boy's features at the Inukami's remark on his next question. Was he really flirting with her? Maybe he was just a little bit. Loki had always been a flirt, it was a part of his nature. There were times when he didn't even know that he was doing it, if he was around a pretty girl and he was in a good mood he would flirt with her. Riku was pretty and interesting enough to make his more playful side come out. “Only with the pretty ones.” the boy purred, giving the female a little wink as he spoke. “Its not something I make a habit of though. Its not every day I run into a friendly face in the woods. I normally keep to myself out here...when I do run into someone they are more interested in taking a bite out of me than being friends. Especially canine types...no offence.” Then again that only seemed to be happening with people like Guilotine. Loki never really did have much luck when it came with dealing with that annoying hellhound or demons in general. All the demonic creatures seemed naturally aggressive. His ventures with other creatures as of late had been a lot better than those.

(No worries. Life's been busy for me too lol.)
It was safe to assume that Rikutsu was actually impressed with how well the shifter had managed to adapt to this world. She had no idea what to make of the human technology, but he seemed to be doing just fine on figuring it out. Teach her how to use a cell phone? Perhaps. Though, she honestly didn't want to learn, but only because she disliked change. However, now that she had encountered someone that she really did want to keep in touch with, maybe learning to use the darned thing would be a good idea. So she agreed. "That would be great. Cell phones can be so confusing." She grumbled the last part.
As time went on and the pair continued their trek through the forest, past the lake and closer toward the city of steel, loud cars and bustling humans, Rikutsu's energy began to ebb. Fatigue gnawed at her, slowing her reactions and making the idea of dragging her feet very tempting. She would definetly need a nap once she returned home. If she even made it that far. Loki was the first person - human or supernatural - that had used her gateways alongside her. She had originally assumed it would be no big deal. She could handle it and the after affects. Apparently, she had been wrong, and was currently suffering the consequences of an Inukami's arrogant pride. So her response to his next comment would seem a little slower. "Oh please, I'm the scariest thing out here." she joked, hooking her clawed fingers into talons and pretending to hiss like some ferocious animal. The effect was lost when she stumbled, over what, she couldn't begin to say. She was just too tired. But she quickly caught herself, uttering a low curse that she most likely had picked up from one of her more dirty-minded coworkers.

How well had Rikutsu adapted to this world? Loki couldn't help but wonder when she confessed how little she knew about how phones worked. Any supernatural that hadn't already been born into this world all had to deal with the culture shock that happened when they first came into this place. Loki had been no different. The world he had been a part of had been very different than what it was like here. It wasn't just the vast number of humans, and distinct lack of his own kind that surprised them. Their technology was way more advanced than where he had came from. From electronics to transportation everything was new, it was easy to get overwhelmed or even scared coming face to face to with it for the first time. But Loki was able to adjust to it. Maybe because he was still young and had an easier time adjusting to new things, or maybe because he was already seeking change when he had fled home, but somehow he adapted well enough to most things. Technology didn't confuse him as much anymore, but that didn't seem to be the case with Riku.
He would definitely have to teach her, provided that she wanted him to. For all he knew, he would never see Riku again after this point. The shifter liked her enough to try and build some kind of relationship here, but did Riku feel the same way? From what he could see the feeling might be mutual. Riku looked like she was enjoying his company which was a good sign. The boy smiled, a soft purr rose out of him when the Inukami accepted his offer. Since she accepted his help that meant they would definitely see each other in the future. He was pleased with that. But there was still the small problem of getting her where she needed to go. Loki was very careful in how he dealt with the female he was walking with. He knew that Riku was tired because she had used her powers to help him get out of the bayou, he also knew she didn't want him to know that. Worried that she might get offended if he pointed her weakness out, but not willing to leaving her behind in case she collapsed he decided to walk with her till they made it out of the forest.
She was doing pretty well so far. They were reaching the end of the forest. It was only a matter of time before they reached the road leading them back into the city, but the closer they were getting the more Loki started to wonder if it was really a good idea to leave her so soon. Riku didn't look like she was getting any better. Could she even make it where she needed to go without collapsing? Nothing got past this feline's eyes, even when she still tried to play it off he could see her actions were getting slower than before. He masked his growing concerns with a chuckle. “I am sure you are plenty scary when you want to be. It s a good thing I am not on your bad side, you might end up being another canine that wants to devour my fluffy tail.” when Riku stumbled Loki was quick to react, the boy helped steady the girl before she could fall. “I'm afraid you won't be able to maintain your frightful reputation if you can barely stand.” There was no point in keeping up this farce anymore, if Riku was starting to lose her balance she wouldn't be getting too far on her own. “Let me help you, I can carry you wherever you need to go if you point me in the right direction.”

In all actuality, the Inukami had not been in this world for very long. Five or six months. Less than a year. That was about how long she had been here, and the P.I.D.A apparently saw no use in teaching her how to use their technology; aside from her cell phone, of course, but none of her coworkers seemed inclined to take it upon themselves to help her out - the humans feared her, so it wasn't a surprise that they wouldn't. Rikutsu was the combat type. And as loath as some of her supernatural coworkers were to admit, she was powerful. So most of her time was invested in training and strategy. She found stradegy lessons boring, but her employer insisted that she take them. Rikutsu was notorious for charging into the fray without much thought and simply annihilating her enemies - the supernaturals that dared to wreak havoc among humans. That wasn't such a bad thing. The P.I.D.A were fine with that. What the problem for them was, the amount of destruction that the Inu left behind. She did not practice restraint or control, and on top of that, she was apparently reckless and "held no thought for the human civilians". This often deteriorated into arguments with her boss and most of her human coworkers. They cared for the lives of humans. She did not. And so, in the end, the differences between herself and the rest of the people she knew kept the Inu from asking any of them how to figure out human technology. Loki seemed to be doing just fine. She wondered how long had he lived here in this world?
Rikutsu was much too tired to do anymore thinking. They were almost out of the forest, and she could make out the break in the treeline ahead. It wouldn't be that far to her home. She could make it. Right? Because she was fond of the forest and nature, she had managed to secure an old fashioned, Victorian style house near the outskirts of the city. Not only did this provide decent privacy, but it also allowed her to travel the forest and bayou as much as she pleased and whenever she wished to.
Stumbling over nothing could be rather embarrassing to anyone, supernatural or otherwise, but quite frankly, she was just too tired to care. It was only a few miles until they reached the end of the forest, and from there, a short ten minute hike to her home down a gravel road that broke off from the border of the city. So it wasn't that far. When Loki had moved to steady her as she stumbled, Rikutsu found herself instinctually flinching at such sudden movement toward her. Oh, so she still did that? She had though she had gotten over that, but apparently not. Still, she gripped Loki's forearm for balance, hoping that'd suffice as an apology for flinching away from him, if he had noticed at all. Given the felines perception abilities, she didn't doubt that he had noticed.
"Ah...no, I'm alright." she insisted, rubbing at her eyes tiredly and ignoring the little part of her that hissed liar. "I just need to rest." She must have been on the verge of unconsciousness if she was willing to admit that. And she had come to like the feline. Somehow, she felt that she could trust him, so her body and mind weren't against falling asleep in his presence.

The forest exit was just within reach. Soon they would be out of the woods and the two could go their separate ways. It would have been a good thing to think about if Loki wasn't worried about what would happen to Rikutsu the moment he left her alone. Ever since they had teleported their way out of the bayou the Inukami had become weaker, the journey they were taking out of the forest wasn't doing her any favors either. Loki walked along side her and kept a close eye on the female's condition. She was doing her best to hide her exhaustion, but even a simpleton could see that she was wearing herself out. What was he going to do about this? He knew that she probably wanted him to leave so she wouldn't have to show any weakness to him, but he couldn't in good conscious do that. Her condition was his fault after all. Opening up those portals took up energy, just like how Azazel's angelic powers took up his. The fallen angel could get worn out when he used too much of them so it wasn't too surprising that the same thing could happen to Rikutsu. Even if she was used to the drain from her powers did she know how much energy she would have used to have another person go through them? This could have been the first time she had done something like this, which would explain why she had no problems with the idea at the start. Maybe she didn't know? He certainly had no idea about this himself.
That didn't change the facts, Riku was weaker now because she helped him. It would be wrong for him to leave her in her current state. He was determined to get her straight home as soon as possible to be sure she could make it back safely. Though from the looks of how things were going she was not going to get there on her own two feet. The poor girl nearly toppled over as they were walking. Loki was quick enough to help catch her before she fell. He couldn't help but notice Riku flinch when he touched her. Does she not like being touched? he wondered. Judging by how she gripped onto him afterwards it was safe to assume she didn't do it because she was worried about him. It was probably an old habit built over something that had happened in the past. The shifter could relate to that, depending on the reason. For now Loki shoved the little action on the back of his mind to deal with the real problem. Despite her stumble Riku was still trying to play off her weakness as something minor.
“If you really were alright you wouldn't be struggling to keep your eyes open.” Loki replied flatly. There was no point in trying to help save her pride right now. He knew how this was going to end if he kept allowing her to play it off. “You can get some rest now if I carry you the rest of the way.” He didn't bother to wait for her consent this time around. In one quick fluid motion Loki would try to scoop the inukami up into his arms bridal style. It had been a long time since he had done something like this but he was sure he was capable of carrying Riku for quite awhile if he had to. They might be around the same height (she was slightly taller just like Amalia was), but girls were pretty light, even lighter than he probably was. “Just point me in the direction of your place and I can take you there. If you don't want to give me directions I will just take you to my place and you can sleep in my room till you get your strength back. I'll even give you a treat when you wake up.”

Such perception. The feline shifter had the uncanny ability to see right through her, no matter how well she played off her exhaustion. How did he do it? Besides her near face plant on the ground, how was he able to tell? She had always done well to hide her weaknesses, yet Loki saw them as if she were displaying them openly. As much as it irked her, somehow, it impressed her just as much. Few had the ability to read her so well.
With one hand gripping his forearm for support, Rikutsu couldn't help but to rub at her tired eyes. Her vision had begun to swim. Was she really that tired? How much energy had she used? Her gateways had never taken such a toll before, so she could only assume it was because she had brought Loki through them with her. Now, he appeared to think it was his fault that she was near collapsing. It wasn't, she decided. She had been arrogant. She assumed that she would be able to handle the strain and now she was paying the price for her pride. It was her own fault, not his.
"Loki," she began, only to emit a startled yelp the instant her feet left the ground as he swept her up into his arms. She was slightly taller than he was, but he would have no problem carrying her, as she weighed very little; only 109 pounds max. And so with a tired sigh, she resigned herself to being carried, finding it difficult to resist with the state she was in. "It's not far..." she yawned, hesitantly slipping an arm over his shoulder and allowing her head to rest there. At first, her instincts had sent alarm bells blaring in her head, but she reminded herself that she was in no danger. If the shifter had wanted to harm her, he would have done so once he realized how tired she was. Her words were slow when she spoke, heavy with sleep. "Keep walking toward the city. There's an old road that breaks away at the outskirts." She paused, her brow furrowing in thought as she frowned, forcing her eyes open to peer up at him. "S'not your fault."
Perhaps she had more to say, such as warning him of the possibility that some of her coworkers might be lurking about, hoping to drag her uncooperative butt back to work, but before she could, unconsciousness claimed her. It was a wonder that she had been able to walk as long as she had if it only took moments for her to drift into sleep.
(Lol Rik overdid things again. Good thing Loki is so perceptive. XD)

It was true that Loki was a very perceptive feline. The environment he had grown up in demanded it of him. Being the son of a ruler wasn't nearly as glamorous as some people thought it was, he had to learn how to rule when it was finally his turn to, that meant having to learn about politics. He had to learn how to please people, how to read them so he could please the right people, so he could manipulate them for his own benefit, or keep those that might threaten his position in line. It was easy to tell when someone was lying or trying to hide something if you knew what to look for. How he figured out Riku's deception wasn't nearly as complex. In this case it was just his personal experience having to deal with the same thing in the past. The ghost of his past kept creeping up on the shifter the more time he spent with Rikutsu.
Amalia was a strange girl. She was a prideful cat, always puffing out her chest, talking down to him despite being lower class to mask how much she liked him. She was straight forward and stubborn. Her personality was strong but her body wasn't. Amalia had been with a poor constitution, she tired easily, and got sick often. But she always tried to hide it behind her tough facade. As someone who hid his own problems behind a smile he was naturally drawn to her. It was easy back then to tell when she was starting to have trouble catching up, or the telltale signs of illness that she tried to mask because she didn't want to slow him down. He would entertain her a little bit until she got weak enough that she couldn't hit him when he forced her off her feet so he could make her rest.
It had been a year since he had to do something like this, but he slipped back into his old habits so easily. He didn't even think about what he might be putting the inukami through from his sudden actions. There was a good chance that Riku was very uncomfortable with physical contact, if that was the case picking her up could do more harm than he intended to. But his first instinct was to take her to safety whether she liked it or not. He was prepared to fight her on it if things came down to that, but he didn't need to. Riku's condition made it hard for her to resist so she caved in. Luckily for the both of them Riku's house wasn't that far away. “Follow the path till I reach an old road...sounds simple enough.” the boy confirmed. He had a good idea where to go from here, he had passed by an old beaten down road plenty of times when he went to and fro in the forest. He had never bothered to go down that path so he had no idea what was down it till now. They weren't far from where it was right now so he could easily reach it. Riku's voice caught his attention once more before she finally drifted off to sleep.
”S'not your fault.”
The boy looked down at the sleeping girl in his arms feeling a little confused at first. Had Riku sensed that he was feeling a little guilty about her situation? It was hard for the boy who was already so prong to feeling guilt to not feel partially responsible for this. Yet hearing her say those words made that feeling die down a little. A small smile crossed his face. “It's not your fault either.” he whispered back. She probably couldn't hear him now, but if she did he wanted her to not feel bad for wearing herself out. Neither of them knew what would happen after the fact, they took a gamble and this was the result. Now all they could do now was deal with it. With Riku in his arms Loki made his way down the path towards Riku's home. Taking her to her place and helping her into bed was the least he could do to thank her for her help.

Warmth.
A luxury that as an Inukami was rarely to never experienced in most cases. The feeling of security. Knowing you were safe to slumber peacefully and without any threats whatsoever. For the first time in her life, Rikutsu knew such a feeling. She had only just met Loki, but there was something about his nature. He was a caring type, for sure. A rarity in the cruel world. Both this one and in others. She couldn't begin to fathom what the shifter might have experienced in his life, but whatever it was had given him the ability to make others feel safe and comfortable around him. This made it exceptionally easy for Rikutsu to adjust to his presence. It had been a very long time indeed since she had felt anything close to safety at all.
The Inukami was out like a light, hardly even breathing with how deeply she slept as Loki made his way in the direction of her home. This was a testament to not only how exhausted she was, but how she had somehow come to trust him enough to sleep while he carried her. Sensitive ears twitched slightly upon his whisper, but there was no telling if she had heard him or not.
At her house, there would no doubt be one or two members of the PIDA lurking about, most likely with the intentions of scolding her for skipping out on work. And possibly hoping to force her back into town. And if this were the case, these members made no attempt to make their presence known, but the perceptive feline was likely to spot them. They would likely not do anything, however, and Loki would find the front door to the house unlocked. Living as far out as she was, and being what she was, she never locked her doors, confident in her ability to hear and smell any intruders. The PIDA were not intruders, and so even their possible presence would do little to rouse the sleeping Inu. She had been due to attend another dreadfully boring strategy lesson today, so it was only natural that the higher ups be angry with her. She had, after all, eluded them more times they'd like to admit.
