New Orleans. Often called the city of angels. Yeah right. More like the city of demons. Supernatural creatures from all walks of life prowled the city streets, unseen for the most part by the humans that shared the domain with them. Not like Rikutsu was complaining. She was one of them, after all. Most of the supernaturals were harmless, wanting to simply live a peaceful life like everyone else, but the city offered the Inukami no solace. The noise, the smells, the people - both supernatural and human alike. No. The city was no place of peace for her. And so she found herself roaming the lush greenery of the bayou.
It was early morning, just after dawn, and a chill still lay in the air as birds awoke to send their melodies throughout the trees. Somewhere in the brush, a fallow deer picked its way delicately through the murky swamp. Rikutsu inhaled, the cool air stinging her lungs. Fallow deer always smelled wonderful, but they were difficult to catch and not worth it, for they were of little to eat. Besides, she hadn't come to the bayou today to hunt. Not this time.
"Ah, I wonder if I should practice while I'm here?" Up in a mangrove tree, Rikutsu reclined against the twisted branches, supported by three limbs which formed a u-shape. Turning her face upward to peer at the lightening sky between the foliage, she released a sigh. "Nah. I'll do it tomorrow." a typical comment from her. Rikutsu was well known for her escapades into the wilderness. Even during PIDA meetings, she would often slip away when no one was looking. Still, her skills were enough that her superiors kept her around. A supernatural with the ability to topple a building was easy prey beneath her claws. Size meant nothing to an Inukami. She wondered if anyone would notice her absence today?
Oh well. It didn't matter. It wasn't like they were capable of stopping her. Today, she was just going to relax and laze away the day.

The warm rays of the rising sun woke the small and furry feline from his slumber. So it was morning already huh? Loki thought as he blinked up at the sky from his tree branch. It didn't feel like it had been so long ago since the shapeshifter had climbed up this tree in the bayou to retire for the night. He didn't need a watch to tell him it had only been a few hours past midnight or so when he had finally given up trying to find his way back home and decided risking sleeping out in the wilderness for a night. That had been hours ago, yet it felt like only a few minutes had past since he fell asleep. Loki yawned and rested his head back on his paws. Man he must be really tired. That wasn't much of a surprise though. Loki had spent most of his time in the forest last night exploring. He had decided to explore the forest in greater depth than he had in the past, partially because he wanted to find some new training spots to practice knife throwing in secret, partially as a good way to spend his time in his animal form, and partially to keep himself busy to distract himself from his loneliness.
He didn't really find any places he liked as training grounds beyond his usual place, but the trip was just what he needed to keep his mind off of troubles at home. Walking around and taking in the sights was far better than spending the whole day in an empty house wondering where his friends had run off to. The unusual silence that both Azazel and Weylyn had left when they were gone had been more troubling than Loki would have liked to admit. It was nice to not think about them for a day. Unfortunately at some point in his adventure he had lost track of where he was going and ended up in the bayou. The bayou was not the most pleasant place for a wild cat to be in. It was filled with so much damn water he had to be extra careful not to take a wrong step and end up drowning in it all. If that wasn't bad enough the water looked disgusting. It was all murky and smelled foul. After a bit of wandering in the dark getting his paws soggy he was more than happy to call it a night and seek a high place for shelter.
What a shame it was that he would have to leave his sanctuary to get his paws dirty again. But he did need to get back home eventually. At the very least he needed to get out of this damn swamp and onto more drier land. The feline let out another yawn as he stretched himself out, forced himself to stand up, and start the long climb down. Loki leaped from branch to branch as he made his way down the tree, but as he made his way down the tree something caught his attention. He wasn't the only one in this tree. He must've been lost in his own little world that he had failed to notice the strange female a few branches below him. He only became aware of her presence when he almost landed on top of her. Her sudden appearance startled him enough that he almost fell out of the branch he landed on. If it wasn't for his quick reflexes he probably would have. Sinking his claws into the tree branch Loki hoisted himself back up and made a quick dash toward the trunk so he would be just out of reach of this mysterious female. While the little shifter didn't know exactly what this female was he saw enough of her appearance and caught enough of her scent to know that she was some kind of canine. Knowing that was enough to make him weary of her. There had been too many dogs in his past that had harassed Loki in the past that he didn't want to risk getting caught by a potentially dangerous canine, especially one that knew how to climb.

The sun, its warm rays piercing through the sparce foliage above drifted ever higher into the sky. Its light revealed dust and leaf particles in the air, stirred up by instects that fluttered about. The bayou, as dangerous as it could be was a quiet, almost magical place. Rikutsu yawned and leaned her head back against the supporting branches behind her. It had been a good idea to come out here. At least the rest of the agents wouldn't be so quick to follow her into the bayou. Scaredy cats. Especially the human agents, whom she loved messing with on a daily basis. They were probably overjoyed she had wandered off again, because they would have an entire day without her pranks and tricks. Lucky them, weren't they?
As the sun continued it's ascent into the blue sky, the Inu found her peace suddenly disturbed when the branches rustled above her. She didn't move. Her relaxed position didn't change, giving no indication of her having noticed the creature that smelled like a cat as it made its way down. One ear turned back, listening. Had it not seen her? Apparently not. She sat up as the feline almost landed on her, using its incredible reflexes to save itself from falling into the dark waters below. Pulling her legs up under her, Rikutsu sank into a crouched position as she observed the cat a few feet away, just out of reach. Smart. She could tell that it was no ordinary feline. The intelligence in those eyes, the scent of being something...more. A shapeshifter? And by the scent, this one was male. What was a feline shifter doing way out here in the bayou? Certainly it wasn't to hunt. The water alone would be enough to cause him trouble, not to mention the strange beasts that he most likely had never seen before.
"You lost?" the Inu questioned gruffly, somewhat disgruntled at the fact that her quiet day had been interrupted.

Today would probably be a long one, one that Loki wasn't sure he was prepared for. Despite feeling dead tired after just waking up he had to force himself to get up and moving. If just getting up this morning was such a burden then how bad would it be when he tried to make his way back home? Loki was still lost after all. He was trapped in this foul smelling swamp with no sense of where to go to get out of it. Exploring the area to find his way was going to be hard, especially when the last thing he wanted to do was get his paws wet. Just thinking about the trek out of this place made the little feline shudder, but he would just have to bear with it and focus on what he needed to do. As much as he hated this, the first thing he needed to do was get out of this tree. Once Loki forced himself up he started to make his way down the tree. Once he was out of the tree how was he going to make it back home? His thoughts had wandered off to how he made his way to his sleeping spot in the first place. The best way to find his way out of the bayou was to retrace his steps. It would be a little harder for him to follow his tracks in a place like this so the best thing he had to help him out was his own memory.
Loki had been so wrapped up in his thoughts as he was climbing down that he didn't notice the other creature resting in the tree until it was too late. Damn it, if only he had been paying better attention to his surroundings he wouldn't have panicked and almost fall off the tree and into the dirty swamp water below. The strange female caught him off guard enough for him to lose his footing, but thankfully not enough for his reflexes to kick in and save himself from further embarrassment. Like any cat, Loki quickly recovered and bolted for safety. There weren't a lot of safe places for him to hide from this new potential threat where he was, but he did manage to climb up the trunk of the tree just out of her reach before she could make a grab for him. If she was planning to make a grab for him that was. Loki doubted that this stranger had climbed up this tree just to get him, but he couldn't dismiss the possibility that she was a threat. He could smell the canine in her, he could see those distinctive features on her body, he might not know what she was exactly but he knew enough from personal experience with canines that he needed to approach this one with caution.
Loki looked down on the lone female from where he was, still clinging desperately against the trunk of the tree. He didn't say a word, beyond looking a little puffy thanks to his fur standing up on edge he showed signs of aggression or out right fear. He wasn't going to make any hasty judgments here today. What he would do next depended on the way she chose to react. Luckily for him the strange canine-esque female didn't lash out. Instead of coming after him she looked him over and spoke. There was no hostility in her voice, she sounded a little annoyed but that was about it. A little bit of the boy's tension had died down a little after she spoke but it wasn't enough to make him drop his guard yet. “Right now? No I'm not.” the boy answered. “I know right now that I am in a tree, and I was trying to get down from said tree until I saw that I had company.” With no way of knowing if he could trust the female he was speaking with yet he was not willing to admit that he was lost. If she planned to hunt him down the last thing that he wanted to do was give her an advantage over him. “Sorry if I startled you. I wasn't paying much attention to where I was going and didn't see you....I'm not bothering you or anything am I?”

Today was just perfect wasn't it?
Rikutsu had come to the bayou for a day of relaxation - and maybe to piss off the higher ups where she worked, too. Just a little. And here she was looking at a feline shapeshifter who clearly couldn't make heads or tails of the maze that was the bayou. The swamp could be just as tricky as it was dangerous. And a foreign creature like the one in front of her? Forget it. He had about as good a chance of finding his way out of here as a bird had flying in a blizzard. The same could of been said for her, but she had been coming to this swamp for years, and her fox form was even better at navigating the waters than her coyote was. Not to mention that a canines sense of smell was far superior to a felines, who had better hearing.
The Inukami gave a sigh and reclined back against the branch she was perched on. If he was indeed lost, it would go against her morals to just leave him out here. She would have to show him the way back. If he would accept her help, that is. "Uh-huh." she gave a noise of disbelief at his initial words. Maybe he didn't know, but even canines could smell a lie. Even a half lie. And besides, he wasn't very suited to this environment. She could only believe that he had gotten himself lost. Why else would he of had to sleep in a tree all night? Resting one arm over her knee, which she had drawn up while her other leg swung below her, she leaned back and said, "Nah, I was only relaxing." she paused, then took the shot in the dark. "I can show you the way out." If he really was lost, her conscious wouldn't allow her to do otherwise.

Loki had to admit he was not starting this day out on the best of terms. It was bad enough that he was stuck in very dangerous, unknown territory, with no sense of where he had to go to get out of it, but before he could even get started on trying to get his bearings he jumped into some potential trouble with this creature. What was he dealing with exactly? While the female's appearance and scent told him he was dealing with some kind of canine, he couldn't read much more into what his senses told him to identify this potential threat. He didn't know what this woman was, what kind of powers she did or didn't have, or how best to fight her if things came to that. Loki didn't want to have to fight unless he absolutely had to, especially when it came to fighting the opposite sex but there was a chance that things could get ugly for him and fast. Most of his encounters with dogs or dog like beings had rarely been pleasant. His past experiences but the little shifter on high alert when he saw what he was dealing with. He gave himself enough distance to make an escape in case this canine came after him. His position would give him no room to fight. His feline form was pretty useless in a fight, he might have fangs and sharp claws but they were no match for the fangs of a bigger creature. It wasn't the best situation but it would have to do for now.
He wouldn't have to worry about a fight for now it seemed. Though Loki was prepared for any attack this creature decided to throw at him she didn't seem really interested in attacking. Her posture, words, and the way she spoke weren't very threatening. She seemed more bored and annoyed with this current exchange. Maybe he wasn't in danger? A small part of him began to relax, but it wasn't enough to make him completely lower his guard. When she asked him if he was lost he didn't give her a complete answer. There was a bit of a risk in telling the whole truth. He didn't want to give a potential enemy any information that she could easily use against him. At the same time he didn't want to be completely dishonest if she really was as harmless as she seemed to be. He would be a fool to throw away his only chance of getting out of this place as fast as possible. A half truth wasn't much but it was what he decided to go with. He wasn't surprised that she didn't buy into it.
Her reaction didn't phase him at all. He wouldn't argue against her assumptions. Instead he chose to apologize for startling her. He did feel a little bad for what he did. She didn't seem to mind much though. Loki chuckled when she gave him her answer. “Well, sorry for interrupting your relaxation time.” he replied. Loki jumped down from the trunk to a neighboring branch to sit down a little closer to the dog like female, still just out of reach just to be safe. What she asked next gave him pause. He had to admit that he needed help getting out of the bayou, and as far as he could see this female wasn't much of a threat to him. Should he take her up on her offer? “There is no need to worry about me dear.” he finally replied. “I have found my way out of worse places than this on my own. I don't want to be a bother to you so you don't need to help lead me out of here. If you really want to help just point me in the direction of the forest and I will do the rest myself.”

The feline must still be wary of her. This came as no surprise, of course. After all, she was a canine type. Dogs and cats had never really gotten along. It had been that way for centuries. Though Rikutsu didn't understand why most mutts enjoyed mindlessly chasing cats all over the place. Chasing was fun, but only when hunting.
As the shapeshifter drew closer - still just out of reach, she didn't move from her relaxed position. There was no need for him to be cautious of her, but she supposed that because she smelled as a canine it was only natural. That and the fact that very few could pinpoint exactly what she was by scent alone. As an Inukami, her ability to take on multiple canine forms often confused others, the scents of different canines mixing. Just that could make anyone wary of her. Flicking her tail, she turned her molten gaze to the left, looking out into the bayou. "Well," she began in a drawl. "I suppose you could make it. A straight shot that way leads to the forest." she paused, then added. "However, be careful not to get eaten by a constrictor or attacked by a swamp tiger. And I hope you're not too drenched once you reach the end." Now she looked at him, a mischievous glint in her copper orbs. Cats hated water. He was bound to get his feet wet on the way back, but she had a way to prevent that. How else could she be sitting as she was, completely dry, not a hair out of place?

The longer Loki was in this female's presence, the more he began to realize that he wasn't in any real danger. While the young woman did give him quite a scare when he first saw her the tension of that moment had quickly died down. Not once during this little exchange did she ever try to attack him. Sure she scared him and all but that had never been her fault. He had jumped out on her, not the other way around, but after that he didn't sense any hostility from her. There was the chance that she was just pretending to be nice just to lull him into a false sense of security. Any smart creature in her position would resort to doing so. How else would she get him when he was just outside her reach? If she really was trying to trick him though she was doing a damn good job of it. Even the best predatory con artists could not fully hide their true intentions. Their words might be lying but their bodies always told the truth. Loki was pretty good at reading a fellow predator's body language to tell if he was in danger. He could catch the slightest bit of tension in their bodies, he could catch the faint glint in their gaze that screamed their true intentions.
But this one he got nothing. She was too relaxed to be waiting to pounce on him, she didn't look at him like a lion eying a fat and lazy lamb. There were no signs that she wanted to make a meal out of him at all. Maybe she wasn't a threat after all? It was rare for Loki to meet a friendly dog but not completely out of the realm of possibility. It wasn't to long ago since he met that sweet young wolf Kazuko. When he had first seen the large white wolf he had been just as wary of her as he was with this one. Kazuko had not harmed him when they had bumped into each other. Once she had made it clear that she had no intentions of trying to chew on his cute fluffy tail, it was amazing that she didn't when she looked so starved. He had given that wolf the chance, and as a kind gesture he helped feed her and teach her how to hunt for herself. If he could give a starving wolf a chance he could give this one a chance too.
Loki started to relax a little more from his perch. Maybe he didn't have to worry about this creature anymore but he still wasn't sure if he should take her offer to help him. As much as he appreciated the gesture he would feel a little guilty for taking it. He already interrupted her peaceful rest by dropping in on her and didn't want to ruin the rest of her day by having her lead him all the way back into the forest. He had gotten himself into this mess in the first place so he should try to get himself out of it. Loki politely declined the offer and asked for directions instead. He couldn't let the one chance he had to get out of this damn swamp got to waste. So long as he had some direction to head to he was sure he could find a way back on his own without troubling the female further. His question seemed to amuse his companion. She was more than happy to give him some directions. Loki looked to where she said the forest was at. Well, it wasn't much but it was a start. It was better than nothing.
He was about to thank her when she started warning him about the danger he could be facing venturing out on his own. Her words made him chuckle. “Swamp tigers? That sounds positively terrifying.” he laughed, giving a fake shudder for added effect. “I didn't know tigers lived in the swamp, as distant cousins I would think they had better standards. I guess I could be wrong.” Jokes aside she did have a point on how dangerous this place could be. Loki had never been to a swamp until today so he didn't know just what kind of creatures lurked within it. There were plenty of dangerous creatures that might find this place a great spot to live, maybe even a few that would see him and think he would make a tasty snack. “Its touching to hear you being so concerned for my well being but you don't have to worry. I am a very careful cat. I was wandering around this place for half the night and didn't run into any trouble. I bet half the really dangerous creatures that might want a piece of this fluffy tail have gone to sleep. If anything does want to get a piece of me they will be in for a nasty surprise. This kitten has claws and he's not afraid to use them.”
The little feline was confident enough in his own abilities to protect himself to brush the warning aside. But then the canine brought up the water. Loki's cheer died down the moment she did. The shifter looked down to the watery depths below him as he contemplated her words. She got him there. Water was not a cat's best friend. Loki loved water as much as any cat did. He hated getting wet. He still hated it even when he took a shower every day. At least back at home he could quickly retreat to his room and dry himself off as fast as possible. But out here he could do no such thing. He had been very careful walking through the bayou when he got lost last night and he still managed to get his paws drenched in the muddy, foul smelling water. He was dry for now but the second he went down he was bound to get wet. Again. Or worse, he could drown. Fighting other animals was one thing, but there was no way that his knives could save him from drowning to death if he made one wrong step.
“The water is a little bit more of a challenge than swamp tigers...” he said after a moment of silence. “I am ashamed to admit it, but I have never been much of a fan of the stuff. I never learned how to swim, its kind of hard to learn how when those around you growing up would drown just as quickly as you would if they tried to show you...It would be helpful to have someone show me how to not accidentally drown myself just trying to find my way around. But I don't want to inconvenience you. I already bothered you enough as it is, yet you are offering to help me out, and you don't even know who I am.” Loki jumped down to settle himself down on the branch the canine was resting on. He was taking a serious gamble doing what he did. He was within reach of the female if she chose to attack him now. But he was sure she wouldn't. “Allow me to introduce myself, I am Loki the troublesome lost cat.” He gave her a little bow, his tail flickering playfully behind him. “And who or what might you be my dear?”

Apparently, the feline was quite intent on making his way out of the bayou on his own and without assistance, continuing to decline her offer, but Rikutsu didn't relent. Not only did her own morals disallow it, but as a PDIA member, she felt inclined to assist those who needed the help. It was one of the things her job called for, after all. However, the cat seemed to still be wary of her, but as time went on, his guard lowered as he began to realize that she was of no threat to him. And she really wasn't. As much of a prankster she was, she was never intentionally cruel, and saw no reason at all to attack the feline. What benefit would that be to her? None.
So she merely watched patiently as he looked to have some sort of internal debate with himself. Not once did she move, reclining languidly within the supporting branches of the magrove. Once he appeared to have come to a decision, she sat up a little, ears pricked as she listened to his response. "Oh, yes. Tigers have adapted rather well to the swamp lands. They are very elusive. Rarely seen." she commented lazily, lips twitching with an amused grin at the males feigned shudder. He wasn't afraid of much, was he? She chuckled at his words of bravery. Ah, and there it was. The fear of water. A trait all felines shared. Surprisingly, even she didn't like water. It was unusual for a canine perhaps, which is why she rarely ever revealed this trait. Even worse was the fact that she couldn't swim. Wouldn't that be quite the joke at work?
"Yes, well I do actually have a method of traversing this bayou without getting a single drop of water on myself." she gave a little grin. As he moved even closer, perching on the very same branch that she was sitting on, she continued, "It is of no inconvenience at all. I probably should check in at my job so that they don't decide to send out a search party for me, anyway." A mischievous glint flickered in her golden gaze as she said this. It wasn't likely that they would come looking for her in the bayou, but it would be rather embarrassing to have her superiors scouring the town for her. Why did they care so much that she should be at the meetings, though? It's not like they were of much importance - in her mind, anyway.
"Besides, I don't need to know someone to help them if they really need it." she went on. The previous look in her eyes vanished, replaced with a genuine warmth that was a smile, even if her lips didn't curve into the familiar expression. "My name is Rikutsu." she offered her hand for a handshake. "Just Rik or Riku will do. I am an Inukami. A canine spirit, basically. And Special Agent of the PDIA. Pleasure to meet you, Loki."

Loki never thought about himself as being overconfident. What confidence he had was all based on what he knew he was good at. He knew he was naturally charming and good looking, so he was confident on his abilities to charm others, women in particular. He was clever enough to talk his way out of s sticky situation, so depending on the situation he could keep himself calm and truly believe he could handle himself. Now as his fighting skills were improving he was starting to grow confident that he could protect himself from the dangers of the bayou. Well, for ordinary animals that was. Big snakes as the dog lady warned him about were probably not as dangerous for him now as they would have been in the past. So long as they weren't poisonous and really got the jump on him he could put a knife in one before it could kill him. Hopefully that would be the only thing he had to worry about. No amount of knife throwing skills could save him from an alligator, but so long as he avoided the main pools of water he would be fine right?
Speaking of water...That was the one of the things he didn't know how to deal with. It didn't matter how confident he was about his fighting skills, no amount of knives, or hand to hand combat, could save him from drowning. Swimming was something Azazel had never taught him, not like he would have wanted him to. The mere mention of the stuff made the boy's normally cheerful demeanor die. Okay, maybe this lady did have a point. There was no way that Loki could walk down below and not get wet. What was he going to do? He needed to go home and wanted to do it safely. He did have some direction to head to now, but he might not be able to get anywhere without help. It was a shame really, he didn't want to bother this nice female any longer than he already did but it looked like he didn't have any other choice. At least he wasn't being much of a pain in the ass with her. The female was quick to mention that she had to leave soon anyway so there was little point in not leaving together.
She had given him some interesting piece of information in regards to why she needed to leave. Loki couldn't help but be a little interested in what kind of work that she did. There were not a lot of jobs out there that would send a search party out for one of their missing employees. Loki looked over at the strange female carefully, wondering what kind of profession she could have. There was no way that she could have any normal job looking the way that she did. Unless she had the power to hide her canine features whoever she worked for would know that she was a supernatural being. Maybe she was a part of the PIDA? Loki had done a bit of digging into the organization after hearing about them from Guillotine. The PIDA were a special human organization that worked to hide and maintain the supernatural population in New Orlands. They had a fair bit of fellow supernaturals employed by them. If there was any group that might send a search party for a missing agent it would be them.
Loki didn't say anything about his inner thoughts for the time being. Instead he chose to take her up on her offer and introduce himself. There was no harm in doing so even if she was an agent. As far as the PIDA knew Loki wasn't doing anything wrong to warrant their attention, so long as they didn't know anything about his constant run ins with Guillotine. Loki purred when the female introduced herself. “Its nice to meet you Riku. I had a feeling you were a part of the PIDA. But an inukami? That's new to me.” Loki laid down for a moment on his perch as he looked down to the ground below. “You said that you could traverse this swamp without getting wet. How do you do it?”

The Inu took her hand back, her head tilting only slightly - which probably made her look a little to much like a curious pup - as the feline shifter spoke in response. She did not know if he meant that he had never heard of an Inukami before or if it was new to him to hear of one in the PDIA. No matter. It wasn't any of her concern if he knew what an Inukami was or not. She had yet to meet another of her kind in this world. So she doubted that he might encounter another who he may accidentally offend. It was easy to do that with most of her kind. Elders especially. Why the old fools where so easily offended, she would never know.
"Ah, my little trick to stay dry." Rikutsu's lips stretched into a toothy grin, dainty fangs flashing. She was a bag of tricks. Coyotes had always been known for their pranks, and it being that the coyote was her first and main form, in other words her true form, she had naturally grew into the mischievous and often troublesome traits that were associated with the cunning creatures. Her trick of traversing the bayou was also used in escapades and battling. It was rather useful. "It isn't easy to explain. You'd be better off witnessing it." she replied, rising into a standing position. "I can open gateways. Some may call them portals, but they're not so advanced as that. My gateways are doors." As she spoke, she lifted her left arm and leapt up, making the motion as if throwing something. Directly below her feet, where she had just been standing, a gap appeared. If one looked closely, the tree limb above Loki could be seen.
"This is how I can move throughout the bayou so easily." her voice didn't fade as she dropped into the gateway, appearing from the other side of it above Loki, perched on the tree branch above it. The portal snapped shut with a crackle. "My gateways took this space I'm in right now and bent it to where I threw my energy. It folded it together and opened a door." That was the best way she knew how to explain it. Hopefully, he understood and didn't ask a million questions. This was the most she had ever spoken in a long while, actually. Cats weren't so bad, then, her boss would say if he were here.
Tail flickering, the coyote leaned down, claws gripping the branch that her bare feet rested on in order to maintain balance. A grin curled her lips. "Pretty cool, huh?" Despite her appearance, that query was most likely to bring to mind the question of the Inukami's age. One had to wonder if she was actually that young, or if she simply had childish moments. This seemed to occur to her, and Rikutsu's grin vanished as she straightened up, stoic mask falling back into place. "Anyway. That's how I do it. You can easily follow me through them." she stated.

How did Riku get through the swamp without getting wet? That was the question that Loki wanted to know. The female claimed she had a way of traversing through the swamp easily, he didn't doubt her on that but he couldn't see any way for her to do that as easily as she was letting it on to be. Simply walking through the swamp was an obvious no go. There was no way on foot for one to travel on the ground without getting a little wet. Loki had learned that the hard way last night. Since she obviously had no wings to fly with he doubted she could just take to the skies to avoid getting wet. There were the trees but the gap between some of the trees around the swamp were too big for one to risk taking a leap of faith to get to. Maybe she was a very good jumper? That was a possibility. It was the only possibility that Loki could think of at the time. The tree idea was somewhat accurate it seemed though not in the way Loki had thought of. Traveling through the trees was the most effective way to go about moving through the swamp, but it was how she did it that was the interesting part.
When Loki asked Riku how she planned to get out of here the canine was more than happy to tell him, or rather show him. That mischievous grin of hers drew his interest so the boy stayed quiet and watched curiously as she tried to demonstrate her little trick. What he saw was amazing. Loki understood the concept of portals. While the world he had came from didn't have anyone capable of creating them, he had seen some in anime and manga before. It was an interesting power but this was the first time he had ever seen it in real life. Loki watched as Riku opened a gap underneath her and vanished before his eyes. Where she went he couldn't tell at first. There wasn't a lot of noise to indicate where she had landed, even when she talked it sounded like she was still in the same place that she had been standing not too long. When Loki peered inside the tiny portal/gateway he saw the branches of a tree. It didn't take him long after that to realize she had ported herself right above him. “That is an awesome power!” Loki beamed up at her, his tail flicking excitedly behind him. Riku's ability reminded him of Weylyn's. Though the shadow cat's power to disappear at a moments notice worked in a completely different than Riku's they had a similar function. “Now I feel a little jealous. The only power I have is just changing between a cat and human. That's nothing compared to you.” the boy chuckled at the thought. Loki had met enough supernaturals in his time here to know how weak he was in comparison to everything else. There was always some creature out there with better abilities than him. He found that fact more fascinating than sad. There was a lot of things about this world and the people in it that he wanted to know.
He wanted to know more about Riku, he wanted to know more about her and her powers, but for now he had to focus on getting out of this swamp. The little shifter purred when Riku told him he could follow her through her little gateways out of the swamp. He had no problems with trying her portals out for himself. He was no squirrel but Loki was a good enough climber that he could jump from branch to branch to get around. With Riku's portals it would be even easier to hop around the trees without worrying about falling into the murky waters below. “Sounds like fun, lets do this.”

If Rikutsu hadn't been so good at keeping her features expressionless, a broad grin would of been stretching her lips right then, but only the twinkle in her golden gaze gave her away. Foxes - her secondary form - and kitsune especially, where known for their vanity. So it was of no surprise that Loki's awe and admittance of being slightly jealous caused her to become prideful. Being the vain creature that she was, the Inukami flicked her tail in a haughty manner and turned her nose up. "Well, yes, it is a unique ability only I may use. Not even the elders of my kind could utilize such a technique." She said with a voice laced of pride. This particular scene would of likely been comical to other beings, but if she had been acting this way in front of another, higher ranked Inukami, Rikutsu was sure that she would of been lashed out at. Good thing for her that Loki was a feline, then wasn't it?
Unless her comment would upset him. Rikutsu turned her gaze to the feline with a tilt of her head, as if studying him. Would it upset him? As vain and prideful a being as she was, she actually had begun to like Loki and didn't want to upset the only cat shifter she had started to befriend. He was an interesting creature. And pretty to look at. Inu loved to collect pretty things, even humans, but she doubted that Loki would be amused to learn that her kind viewed others as things and not living beings. She was still adjusting to such a concept herself; that people were not objects. And that she couldn't just collect them like she could shiny mirrors or brightly colored toys. At least, she couldn't do that in this world.
Blinking, the Inukami pulled herself from her thoughts. "Alright," she said, still crouched on the branch above Loki. She wasn't going to move until it was necessary. "If you come with me through my gateways, there is one crucial detail you must remember. I cannot keep them open for you. Throwing portals takes energy, and I do not wish to waste energy." Her golden orbs shifted to a darker, wine color as she spoke. They were always changing color. It was eerie to most. "Once we get going, I will not wait for you. You must keep up. Can you accomplish this?" She questioned, looking down at him with raised eyebrows.
She wanted to help this shifter, but she wasn't going to expend extra energy for him. Besides, once she began moving by using her portals, stopping to wait for someone would be quite tiring. The longer she had to keep a portal open, the more of her energy it took. Now the only question was if Loki would be able to keep up with her.

Pride was a complicated thing to deal with in Loki's view. There was no shame in taking a little pride in ones abilities and talents. It could be a good, uplifting trait to have. It was a trait that most cats had and he was no exception to it. But pride did have its downfalls. Too much pride could turn people naive and give the overly prideful the idea that they were better than everything else around them. As prideful as Loki was he wasn't nearly that bad. Despite the little shifter's upbringing he didn't think of himself as being anything special. He was born in good standing by chance, he had plenty of good traits, he was smart and charming, but he could never ignore his flaws. He wasn't like the snooty nobles he had to deal with in the past, or anything like his father, he wasn't the kind of man so blinded in his own importance that he cared for little else that had nothing to do with him or his family. As far as cats went Loki wasn't prideful, but he could spot it a mile away. Try as she might Riku could not hide that little sparkle in her eyes, or the prideful tone of her voice when she boasted about her abilities.
Loki couldn't help but smile a little at the Inukami's antics. She was a prideful thing for sure which just added to her charm. This canine had grown on him already, which said quite a lot. Loki wasn't the kind of guy who would discriminate against certain creatures based on his instincts, but there weren't a lot of dogs that he could say he liked. Riku was different though, she was nice, smart, mischievous, and her little antics made her look cute. “Is that so? Then you must be very special amongst your kind.” Loki purred just imagining how much he was feeding into the inukami's ego with each praise. She was sure to love it, and he was sure to love her reaction when it happened. The conversation soon turned back to more pressing matters. There still was that whole getting out of the bayou thing that the two had yet to do and it was time to deal with it. Thanks to Riku's unique powers they both had a way of getting through this dreaded swamp while staying dry. But could they pull it off? The method Riku wanted to do seemed simple enough but as the female went into detail of her limits Loki saw the difficulties of the plan. So opening up gateways took energy to use and the longer she had them open the more energy she wasted. He figured as much. Loki's abilities didn't take up a lot of physical restraint unless he was already very exhausted, put under great amounts of stress, or under special circumstances, but he knew others that had that problem. He knew how draining overuse of powers could be so he understood perfectly what she was talking about. “It doesn't sound too hard. Unless your portals are going to cause dizziness or something more foul I think I can handle it.” the boy said. “Don't worry about me dear, I might not be a fancy portal opener like you, but I do have enough grace and agility to keep up with you without falling to my death. I am more than capable of keeping up with you."

Oh? Was he doing that on purpose?
The Inukami's ego only increased at such praise that the feline shifter allowed to spill from his mouth. Even if she suspected that he was doing it intentionally, Rikutsu couldn't help the delighted gleam in her gaze, nor the haughty swish of her tail. "I would assume I am." There wasn't much that she remembered of her species of where they came from, but from what she did remember, she knew that she had to of been powerful in her own right. Here, in this world, she seemed to be far beyond the level of most other supernatural beings. As far as she knew, anyway. She had yet to encounter anyone who could outclass or outmatch her own abilities. Practically bouncing with glee, her delicate fangs flashing behind a broad grin that managed to stretch her lips, Rikutsu dropped down from her perch to land next to Loki.
"Nothing will happen to you from going through my gateways." she assured him with a quck nod of her head. Then, pulling back her right arm, she initiated a throwing motion. Directly in front of them, the air seemed to contort and twist, and a gap appeared. The process was completely silent. Inside, they could view the large branch of a tree that was situated nearly twenty feet away. Rikutsu had been practicing on expanding the distance these portals of hers could reach to. Before, a mere two or three feet was all that she could manage, but now, with lots of practice and concentration - and many, very colorful curses on her part - she had succeeded in increasing that distance to a good twenty feet or so. "Okay! Here we go." she exclaimed, clearly excited to be showing off her most prized ability to the feline. Try as she might, the Inu could not stifle the grin that sat upon her features. Only the PIDA knew of what she was capable of. It was great - in her opinion - that she could share this with someone else, someone who was normal...err, well, as normal as a supernatural creature could be. "Keep up now!" the Inukami said suddenly, jumping forward and into the portal.
It took seconds. She was out and perched upon the next branch, already releasing another gateway into the air in front of her. Loki would need to be quick, or get left behind.
Each gateway led to another, sturdy branch for them to land on, followed by another portal for them to jump through. And so on and so forth. In this way, they would never touch the water. Despite her continuing to tell the feline that she would not wait for him, if he paid any attention at all, he would realize that one of her coyote ears always remained turned back in his direction; seemingly to keep track of his whereabouts. To make sure that he was keeping up and that she wasn't leaving him behind. It wouldn't take them long to reach the edge of the bayou, either.
