Loki never really liked cars. They were small, noisy, and smelly metal contraptions. For humans they had their uses, and even he had to use them for transportation during his travels but he never really felt too comfortable in them. Now was no exception. With the poor shifter's head killing him the sounds and sensation of the moving vehicle felt worse than it normally did. The comfortableness did not help him stay conscious, what kept him going was the talking. It was the one thing that he wanted to focus on at all at this point. It was still difficult trying to focus in on Stevie's voice. He might have been sitting right behind the boy but somehow he felt so far away. Loki's eyes slid close for a moment, he had only meant to blink but he was having more difficulty than he would like to admit trying to keep his eyes open. It was hard, it was so damn hard but he forced himself to stay conscious. Not for himself, but for the person beside him. Blake might blame herself if he fell asleep and never woke up again, and what about Azazel and Wey? He couldn't keep his promises to his friends if he let himself fall now.
So he listened to the man behind him, answering the question asked of him to not just keep him in the real world but for the sake of making sure the little love tab he got didn't knock out more than his ability to focus. Did he remember the woman next to him? Of course he did. She was Blake. The woman he put his life on the line to protect, the first kind person he had met when he came to this city, and the woman he had hurt when he tried to break up their friendship. Just thinking about that felt like he was forcing daggers through his heart. He had only done what he did to protect her, much like how reckless he had been earlier tonight just to protect her from what was to come. But what good did that do? He broke away from her to protect her but trouble found her anyway. It wasn't like he sent that demon in her direction or anything, but could this whole scenario have been avoided if he had stayed by her side instead? Even his plans to save her tonight didn't go as planned. Blake was safe for now but she wouldn't have been if he was on his own. Loki had nearly gotten himself killed tonight. If that man didn't show up he would have been dead, then that creature would have gone after Blake.
He really was a failure. It seemed that no matter what he did he couldn't do what he really wanted to do when it came to others. He couldn't really protect Blake tonight, he wouldn't be able to keep himself conscious for much longer, and even if he could and all the excitement of tonight died down, Blake would probably hate him for what he did to her. When the other man spoke it took Loki a moment to realize what was going on, his thoughts were so muddled and all over the place that he had almost missed the stranger's introduction. Stevie. His name was Stevie. Didn't he hear that name from somewhere before? Loki strained his mind to try and recall where when Stevie confessed that he was the dead man all this fuss was about. Now that made Loki open his eyes. If the world didn't spin every time he so much as moved his head he would have turned a surprised stare in his direction.
“That's...impossible...you are suppose to be dead.” He could hardly believe what he was hearing, yet as Stevie tried to explain what happened Loki had a hard time denying it. Even in his messed up head Loki could hear the sincerity in his voice. Stevie was not making this up. This was real. Well, in his mind anyway it was. Then again with the severity of his injuries, the thick stench of blood, and fresh death Stevie still being functional at any capacity at all due to being a reanimated corpse didn't seem all that crazy. “I...didn't know that you had that kind of power Blake...” he tried to crack a smile as he spoke. That's right, Blake was a witch. That was something else he could remember. But he had no idea that a witch could bring someone back from the dead. “If I had known that I wouldn't have called you stupid for going back for him.” A strange thought entered the boy's head. If Blake could bring Stevie back from the dead was it possible for her to do that for anyone? His thoughts drifted back to Amalia. He would give anything to bring her back. He almost wanted to ask Blake if he could have her back but he stopped himself. The boy's expression suddenly darkened and he kept his mouth shut. Even if she could it was already too late. Amalia was gone, and she would always be gone. Remaining only as a ghost that would haunt him to the end of his days.
Loki tried to focus on what Stevie was saying instead of his dead friend. Now wasn't the best time for the dead man to bring up his little mishap. Loki was so out of it and emotionally vulnerable that he didn't know how to deal with all of this. It wasn't until he felt Blake touch him that he finally snapped out of it. He tensed at first at the sudden touch but soon her relaxed. He wasn't alone. All too often Loki felt so alone in this world even when he was with the few people now that he considered friends. But for the first time in a long time he didn't. Gently squeezing her hand Loki was able to keep himself going just a bit longer. “You are yourself now though right?” Loki was hard pressed to forgive the man that would hurt this girl, but if what he was saying was true he might not be a threat anymore. So long as he kept himself under control. The big question here was if he could. “I am not the one you should apologize to...its her that you need to do it for...but I suppose I can forgive you if you had no control over it...I owe you that much since it was you who saved us back there...”
