“So this is New Orlands huh?” Loki muttered to himself as he dropped by the restaurant and bar district to take a look around. New Orlands seemed a lot like every other city Loki had been to since he had came into this world. It was a huge city, with plenty of large, towering buildings, filled to the brim with humans, supernaturals, and various wildlife and stray animals that always went unnoticed by the people around them. And of course there was the smells. God if there was one thing that he had to complain about when it came to cities was the smell. With the amount of cars around it was hard to breath in the foul scent of smoke that cloaked over the city like this. He still wasn't used to it even after all the time he had spent having to live in places like this. The young man sighed as he continued going down the street. Sometimes he really wished he didn't have to come to places like this, there were plenty of things that he didn't like about cities. There was the constant bad smells, and risking his life living so close to humans. Humans were nearly as dangerous as the more vicious supernatural people that plagued this place. All it took was one wrong step and his true identity would be revealed, and he'd be hunted down and killed.
Living in a place like this was always dangerous. But there wasn't much that he could do. Loki needed to live somehow and as much as he hated to admit it cities were actually the best option for him. There were some benefits to sticking to the cities. There were plenty of places to stay if you knew how to look and weren't too picky about where you slept. It was much easier finding a place to stay even if it was for a short period of time than in the wilderness, where you had to be extra cautious that the place you decided to crash at wasn't already owned by someone else. Then there was the food. Loki had been born and raised as a hunter, he knew how to track and catch prey well enough to not die of starvation in the wild. But the abundance of potential food was far more here. There was so much game, plenty of squirrels, birds, mice, and rats that lived in the city, most were much less cautious than their more wild counterparts which made it so much easier to catch them.
Then there was human food, like the food here. Ah yes, human food. If there was one thing he couldn't hate about humans it was their passion for cooking. There was much more pleasant smells in this particular place than anywhere else he had been to. There was so much of it, pizza, burgers, hot dogs, bread, just about anything he could think of that he had tried. Ah, he loved coming to places like this. The young man looked by each store and restaurant he passed by, looking at the things on display or that people were eating, making a mental note of things he would like to try at some point. There were still so many things that Loki hadn't had the chance to try yet. The most interesting place though was a local bakery. Loki couldn't help but stop to look at the cute little display by the front window of the shop. The place itself was small, probably nothing more than a tiny business, likely owned by a family that decided to start their own bakery. The place itself wasn't that special, but the cakes looked real good. There was a decent selection of them, there was chocolate, pretty standard, angel cake and red velvet that he and Amalia had had once, but there was one new one that caught his attention.
Loki leaned a little closer to the display to read the name of it. “Strawberry...cheesecake.” he read aloud. Cheesecake? What the hell was that? It seemed like a strange mix indeed. He had heard of cheese before, and tried it once. It was a little strange but good, and went well with some other kinds of food that he had tried in the past. But he never heard of it being used in a cake before. How did that work? It didn't look too cheese like as it was. It was odd but looked really good despite the concept, and the strawberry element tempted him. He did love strawberries. It was worth trying. Loki could use some food anyway, it had been awhile since he had last eaten, and after seeing this he had no interest in eating any rats today. The young shifter rummaged through his pockets to find what cash he had left only to find a small handful of tiny change. “Damn it...” Well this sucked. There was no way this would be enough for him to buy a piece of that delicious yet odd sounding cake. Loki looked around at the people walking by. If he wanted that piece of cake he was going to have to earn it. The question was, who could he steal or con some cash off of here?

Blake had finally left her home after a while. She needed some air and to clear her head. Living with PTSD was hard and even dangerous. Not to mention, it was hard on El... Now Guillotine... She began to realize she needed to not recluse herself from her friends. Or just people. She needed to some company. Any company. Finally seeing her best friend after a long time made her realize that. She wished she'd stop shutting people out so badly. She had so many friends whom loved her and she knew they missed her. She missed them just as much.
As she walked, she stopped at a stand. She was thirsty and missed the taste of a fresh strawberry lemonade. She paid the man at the stand and smiled as she walked, sipping her drink. Savoring the sweet taste of the pink liquid. A content smile graced her lips as the witch continued walking up the district. Her head tilted to the side as someone caught her eye. Someone very unfamiliar. But none the less, someone. He was wanting... Cake? She blinked a bit and noticed a checking for his pockets but seemed to not have enough. She swallowed. Maybe sweets and the drink didn't sound bad after all.
As she approached, she smiled, "Hi! Uhm... The pumpkin cake, please and... This one as well." the worker nodded and began to fill her order. The one she wanted and what this boy wanted....? She smiled softly and managed to sneak a glance at him. He had pretty eyes, when he did smile, his face lit up. She payed the worker and smiled, handing what Loki wanted to him, "Here... Don't think of this as a charity..." she said softly, her smile mimicking the look in her eyes as she then sipped her drink and nodded to Loki.

Loki's heart sunk the moment he saw how little money he had left. Damn, this sucked. Without money he couldn't buy himself a treat to celebrate his new life in a new place, not to mention making his life a little easier to live. While the young shifter was clever enough to live his life without it, he couldn't deny that money was important. Money was what made the human world go round, it was something he discovered back on his travels. With money he could get food during winter when hunting became harder, and get things that were harder to find or steal. He needed it, he knew it. Yet he still had moments like this. Moments where he didn't notice how fast his funds dwindled till he was virtually penniless. It was his fault for focusing on other things and not keeping track of his money. This would not have happened if he paid attention, now he had to suffer for his own stupidity. Oh well, there wasn't much he could do about the past. What was done was done. What was important now was the future.
There were still ways that the boy could get what he needed. If he really wanted to he could always go in the place and steal it. But he didn't feel like putting that much effort into it. He could end up getting banned from ever coming to this place again, and that would suck since he had plenty of intentions to come here again from time to time. Since he didn't want to steal there was only two more options left to him. He could either steal the cash he needed, or talk his way into getting someone to pay for him. Now those options were much more appealing than the first. The question was, who would be the victim and what method would he choose? Loki looked around him, eying the many people passing by for the perfect target. Soon enough he found it. A mischievous grin crossed his handsome face as he spotted what was likely a business man. This guy seemed like a pretty easy target. He was preoccupied with his cellphone conversation to focus on what was going on around him. He looked pretty well off to judging by the fancy suit he wore. Yes, this was the one he wanted. He doubted he could charm his way into a free meal with this guy but he could easily get into his pocket and get off Scott free.
With his target set in mind Loki hadn't noticed the pretty girl that entered in the shop. Nor did he notice her approaching as he waited for his target to walk by his direction. The man was almost there, so close he could make his move. He was just about to move when the girl talked to him. Before Loki could process what was going on he found a little bakery box in his hand. He looked between the girl and the little box, half surprised and half overjoyed with his luck. Out of all the things that could happen today he would never have thought something like this could happen to a guy like him. The shifter's shocked expression soon turned into a happy one. The boy flashed the pretty woman a warm smile. “I won't consider it charity, I'll consider it a blessed gift from a beautiful cake goddess.” he said with a light chuckle. Man how cool was this, he got some food for free and from a pretty face at that. “Thank you, I was pretty hungry but I was a little low on cash today to get anything.” He took a quick peek at the package to see what he had gotten, his smile grew wider at what he saw. This piece looked exactly like the cake he had been staring at earlier, talk about being super lucky. “This was exactly what I wanted too. You really are a cake goddess aren't you?”
“I am in your debt my dear. I don't have anything that I can give you to return your kindness but I can at the very least give you praise and servitude in return.” Loki bowed to the girl, one hand holding onto her lovely offering graceful as he did so. “My name is Loki, but you may call me whatever pleases you. May this humble servant ask who you are?”

She smiled softly and nodded to him. She was amused by his charm. Even if it was a lie, she simply smiled; not even realizing that she was blushing even a little. She blinked a bit at him and nodded. Happy to have made someone's day, "I'm happy to have made your day, then..." she sipped her drink once more as she felt herself smile, still listening to him explain himself and gush some more. She managed to give him a toothy smile and mulled over his name when she finally heard it. Loki...
"I'm Blake... It's very nice to meet you.." she giggled softly and nodded a bit to him. The rose scented woman softly sighed before she nodded to him and gently touched his shoulder. He truly was so sweet. "Don't worry about it, Loki... No need for this. Just happy to help someone out..." She was happy she left her home today, for here she was, meeting someone new. Her eyes looked away from him as her blonde bangs covered her pale green eyes.

Loki was overjoyed at this profound stroke of luck that befell him today. Really there was nothing else to call this but luck. Oh what in the world had he done to deserve this bout of kindness? Had the gods from his old world finally giving him a little break? He didn't know whether this was some kind of divine intervention going on here or a simple coincidence. Either way no matter what it was he got what he wanted without having to lifting a finger for it. Today came out in his favour, but tomorrow he'd still have to do something about his money problems. Tomorrow was a long time away though, for now he had other plans like finding a way to pay back this lovely girl that helped him out today. As theatrical as his thank you gesture was the meaning behind them was at its core basics true. Loki owed this woman. Without her kindness he wouldn't have gotten what he wanted without having to go out of his way to get himself into trouble.
Trouble was in his nature, this young shifter was always getting himself into some sort of mischief just to survive in this harsh and unforgiving world. Sometimes it was worth it and other times it wasn't. Just being able to avoid getting into too much trouble was good in his book. For that he had to pay her back somehow. That and if he could get himself something more from this young lady if he could please her. Just like any other cat Loki was smart enough to know that with humans if you could get along with the better ones you can always get something in return. If this woman was kind enough to feed him while he was a total stranger to her, then what would she do if he was her friend? A friendship between the two would be rather beneficial for the both of them. For Loki he might be able to get food or other important things from this friendship. As for the girl, well right now he had nothing material wise that he could give her, he wasn't joking when he admitted that, but he could easily offer companionship, hell he could even offer some form of protection as limited as his strength was. He wasn't the best protector but a man could try. She was worth it in his book.
Loki straightened himself out as his new potential friend gave him her name. “Blake...a beautiful name for a beautiful girl.” he replied cheerfully. It was an easy name to remember, and remember it he would. They had only been talking for a short amount of time but already Loki was beginning to like this girl named Blake. She was nice, friendly, and judging by the blush on her face from his antics she was the kind that was easy to tease. She would be a fun person to play with. Loki always liked girls that he could make blush. The way he saw it the ones who blushed a lot were the cutest. They made the best kind of friends that he could never get tired of. The young man laughed when she tried to brush off his offer. “It wouldn't be right for me to just take your gift without doing something for you in return my dear. At the very least I would love to get to know you. How about it? Would you like to at least sit down with me so I can get to know you better as we eat?”

She looked at him and smiled softly. Loki seemed very sweet and honest with her. At least he was honest. Had he not been, she would be able to see it and she would have left. He wanted to get to know her and it made her blush a little more as she held her slice if pumpkin cake. Her head tipping to the side. In this moment of delay, Blake managed to get a better look at him. He had such a handsome face. Maybe she shouldn't be looking at him like that. She had a boyfriend. One she hadn't seen much of since she told him she needed alone time. Her eyes narrowed for a moment as she reminded herself that nothing will come of this and that she could use a new friend. She smiled and nodded softly to him.
"What the heck. I don't see why not."
She sat at a table, right across from him as she began to gently pick small pieces of her cake apart and began to eat, slightly. Her eyes focused in on the charming male. Her smile remained across her face as she then wiped her hands togethrr, off to the right to get crumbs off her hands. She nodded gently and smiled, "Ok, what would you like to know? I'm an open book, depending on who I am with..." Her voice seemed lighter at the last bit if the sentence. Which meant there was a small hint of damage somewhere. What? He might not know. Who knows? Besides her and the people involved, anyways. But she didn't want to scare him away. She wanted him to know that she wouldn't open up right away, not unless she felt she could trust him.
She began to pick again at her cake again to eat small pieces. Her mind still focusing in on his appearance. Her cheeks turning red.

Loki was being nothing but honest with this girl about his desire to take this meeting further. Loki was an honest man...some of the time. Honesty was a tricky thing in truth. There were times that honesty helped and other times where it didn't. And how honest could someone like him really be? There were a lot of things about himself that he lied to amongst others. For starters he wasn't being honest with his appearance and he never could be. At a glance no one would ever suspect that Loki was actually a cat and he liked to keep it that way. This world was nothing like the one he had originally came from. Back home he could be his true self, changing from cat to human whenever he wanted and as much as he pleased. But here, just being a little different from 'the norm' was a death sentence. He had already lost the one friend he could still be his real self, even back at home, because of what they were. The days of him being true to himself were over. He could never reveal what he really was ever again. Not even to this girl. Loki could never forget what had happened to him and his best friend.
As nice as this girl was to him he couldn't trust her enough to let his true nature slip. Blake after all was a human, he could smell that much from her to know that it was true. She was a sweet thing now, but what would happen if she were to see his cat form? Would she think him nice and amusing then? Or send others to hunt him down like what happened with Amalia? He wouldn't know, and had no intentions of finding that out any time soon. Though he had beaten himself up over Amalia's death, wishing that it had been him that died in her place he was bound by her final wish to keep living. The world was cruel but for her sake he would live. If that meant he had to live the life of a liar, having to pretend he was something he wasn't, having to con his way to get what he wanted, and steal when all else failed then so be it. He would do whatever it took to make her life worth what she paid for.
At least today Loki wouldn't need to be so dishonest. He could be the humble boy he was and make a potential friend. Lovely Blake seemed amused enough with him to grant him his small request. Loki was happy to see her accept his offer. The young man followed Blake and sat with her at one of the shop's tables. Loki took the time to look over his piece of cake while Blake dug into hers. It might have seemed a little odd to anyone who didn't know him well that he was so intent just looking at a cake instead of eating it. But for Loki it was something new, and he liked taking in every little detail of new things that he could. He couldn't help but admire the presentation of the piece. In the time that Loki had come into this world he began to notice certain differences in the quality of human food. In a world so abundant with food, humans tended to care more about quality then just obtaining something for basic survival. Presentation and taste were what separated good food from bad food. Though this bakery seemed small the presentation quality of what they made was better than other bigger bakeries that he had seen. That was good, that had to mean it tasted better too right? Soon he would find out, but first he wanted to get the conversation started. After Blake took a few bites she told him he was free to ask her any question he felt so long as she felt comfortable enough to answer them. The small change of tone did not go unnoticed by him. It looked like his new potential friend had some secrets to her. The man smiled at her. “Don't worry my dear, I am a decent person. I don't plan to ask you anything too personal. We all have some secrets that we rather not share with others, so I know not to go prying when its not needed.” Yes, everyone had secrets, some more than others. He was curious about Blake but not enough to poke into her past too deeply. Besides, keeping the conversation light meant he could easily hide his own without fear of her trying to pry into him too much, it was a win win in his book.
“Lets start easy. What brings a lovely lady such as yourself out here today? Were you out for a stroll? Doing a little shopping? Or were you listen in on the prays of a poor man like me and his dreams of cake?” he asked. It was a good start if anything, there was nothing bad about asking what a person was doing in their life. Hell, if there was more to the woman's reason for being out and about today she could easily lie about it. Even if he could catch onto her lie he wouldn't admit it. He would be curious but respectful. Loki finally took a bite out of his precious gift while he waited on an answer. His face lit up the instant he tasted it. Wow, this is what a cheesecake tasted like? It wasn't nearly as strange as he thought it was, in fact it was delicious. It had to be one of the best cakes he had ever had the pleasure of trying. “This is delicious.” he declared. “I never had something like this before, have you ever had cheesecake before? I wonder how they make it. It doesn't taste like its made out of cheese at all!”

She smiled softly and looked Loki over. He was so genuine and emotionally tender, to say the least with her. He probably was with everyone, but she respected his sweetness with her. It will be reciprocated to him; as he never had to tell her anything he never wanted to with her. Not until he was ready or even at all with her. She smiled some at him and took another petite bite of her cake. Goodness, it was only by chance and out of an act of kindness that she found him and continued to stay. He was so sweet to her. She smiled a bit and nodded.
"You're so sweet... I appreciate your respect for my privacy. I will reciprocate your privacy.."
She smiled and listened to his questions next. Even he was curious as to where she came from. She guessed that to him, it was like she came out of nowhere. But he was drawn into her. Where she came from? What she was doing? This only brought a smile to the lips of the rose scented girl. She shook her head a moment before responding to him, "I figured I could use some fresh air today... So I was out for a walk... Taking a look at things... Maybe shop... I dunno... Them I stop by here..." she then trailed off, her smile becoming a bit more bright. She looked at the main window and smiled, not looking back at him, "I look in here and you are looking at cake.. I know what it's like to not have enough... And I would only hope someone would be as kind to me... As for knowing what you wanted... Call it... Intuition..." with that, she chuckled and looked back at him. The witch certainly was a dear to him. Or at least she tried.
She took another bite and smiled at him. She liked that he enjoyed his treat. It would have been a shame if it didn't taste good, to him. Lord knows she had been there before. Bought a pastry that looked good, but one bite indicated that it tasted awful. Her elegant fingers then broke off a piece.of her pumpkin cake and handed it to him, "Try some. I have tried cheese cake. I love the stuff." Granted, her cake was not a cheese cake. It was moist and flavorful. To her, anyways.

“Everyone says that.” Loki replied with a smile. It had always been a little funny to the feline shifter being told by everyone (mostly women) that he was sweet. It wasn't a lie to say that the young man was kind and respectable, Loki found it a lot easier dealing with the world by being the nice guy. But was he really that nice? When he was back home he spent most of his interactions with others by acting like he cared when he didn't. He had to in a lot of circumstances. When his father brought home a potential mate for Loki to spend time with he could hardly reject them even if he didn't want them. And he didn't. Loki never wanted any of the females his family tried to bring to him. He wanted to yell at them for trying to control his love life, but he could never bring himself to do it. It wasn't like they had much of a choice. Their species were dying out, it was in the best interest of their kind to pair the best children together so they could bring forth a stronger generation. There was no time to consider silly things like love. So Loki tried to play his part to keep everyone happy while making his own life miserable. Always behind kind words and a smile. Old habits died hard it seemed.
Why was he being so kind with this girl? Was it simply out of habit? Or was it something more? He didn't know. Loki wasn't in the village anymore where he had to act like he cared more for a potential mate than he really did. He didn't need to act like this if he didn't want to. But a part of him did want to be like how he was now. Blake here had been nice to him, so he couldn't help but return that kindness back in his own way. Sweet girls deserved to be treated sweetly after all, and who better to receive some genuine charm than this sweet girl? “I guess your sweetness brings out the best of me.” the young man teased. When the woman said she'd respect his privacy as well he nodded. Good, this made things easier for him to hide what he didn't want her to know. He didn't need her approval on that of course but still, it was slightly easier to hide things you didn't want known about yourself if it was brought out in the open to not intrude too much in each others privacy.
With that out in the open Loki decided to go and ask his first question, making sure to keep the first one easy. What was Blake doing out here today? It seemed like a simple one to him. Her answer was pretty normal too. Blake wanted some fresh air and decided to go for a walk without any real plan besides getting up and on her feet. He could respect that. Who didn't feel like just doing something relaxing every once in awhile? Loki had done things like that from time to time in the past. Now all he ever did was walk from place to place, but that couldn't be helped when one didn't have much of a home to stay in. Loki couldn't help but chuckle when Blake mentioned what she had been thinking when she had spotted him. “Well, I for one am glad you decided to go out today. Perhaps it is fate that brought us together.” he teased again. While the two were talking Loki tried his first taste of the strange cheesecake that his new companion gave to him, and to his surprise found that it was probably the best thing he had ever tasted in his life. His reaction seemed to amuse Blake, enough so that she offered him a bite of her own cake to see how he liked it. “Sure, I'll try a little.” Loki said, taking the little piece she had offered to him and took a bite. Much like the cheesecake Loki took a liking to this one too. It had a very interesting flavour to it, but he couldn't recognize what it was. “This is delicious!” he exclaimed. “What kind of cake is that?” Loki savored the new taste in his mouth before he turned back to his own cake, taking off a little piece of it and held it out for Blake. “Here, since you shared yours it's only fair that you try a little of mine as well. I don't know if this might be better than the one you had before but either ways you'll like it.”

She smiled at the male and let a soft giggle escape her lips. In that moment, her cheeks reached a soft pink color yet again. The rose scented female listened to his response to her and found herself tipping her head to the side as she looked at him and tried to take in every word and process it. But she merely smiled as he said 'fate' must have brought them together. Blake smirked and shrugged a bit, "Maybe... Fate is a funny, fickle thing." well now. She obviously knows more than she lets on...
She accepted a bite from his cake. Smiling as she popped the tiny piece into her mouth and began to chew, savoring the flavor. A smile reached her lips as she then responded, "That's really good. Mine was pumpkin cake." she smiled and took another bite of her treat and it was finally gone. She crumpled up the napkin as she finished and looked away from Loki as a sadness rested in her eyes. A leather choker around her neck held a feather that to the untrained eye - was not human. Her elegant fingers played with the angel feather for a few moments. Where was he? Loki had said fate earlier. Could... El really not be for her? Why was she here, letting some of her guard down with this guy? He seemed nice. But he could be cruel. Then there was her best friend, Guillotine. He was cruel but turned out to want nothing more than her mere safety, after time passed.
She then got up and sighed softly, "It was nice meeting you, but... I..." she trailed off for a moment before looking back at him, eyes seemingly sad and ready to cry, "I have to go..." she slowly turned and grabbed her drink. Ready to head out the door; throwing her trash away. It was nothing personal against Loki. It truly wasn't.

Blake's tasted almost as good as the cheesecake he had. It wasn't as sweet as his was but it had an interesting taste to it that caught his attention. It was definitely worth checking out when he had the money to do so. Being the little gentleman that he was Loki couldn't just take a piece of a lady's food and not share some of his. Loki was more than happy to offer a piece of his goods, and was happy to hear that she enjoyed his just as much as he had with hers. After she took a bite out of his piece she told him what he cake had been. “Pump...kin. Huh, that will be on my list of things to try.” he said. He had never heard of pumpkin before so he had no idea what it was. Perhaps it was some kind of fruit? From what he had learned in his time trying out human food was that most sweets and bakery goods was made from some combination of other things. Mostly fruit. Like his cake, it was made out of cheese and strawberries. It seemed like a really weird combination, but most cakes seemed like that at first. The combinations were strange but worked really well for what was made. What did pumpkin taste like on its own? He couldn't help but wonder. He would have to try it out one day. It had to be something easy enough to find in a grocery store if he just loitered around long enough to find it. Maybe he could try the raw ingredient itself and see what it was like?
His search for the mystery pumpkin ingredient would have to wait though. Right now Loki had some more interesting things to pay attention to. Loki finished off his cake, half watching Blake as he did so. He really did like this Blake girl. She was a sweet person. She didn't seem to want anything from her like most of the girls he had known in the past. Most girls wanted something from him, whether it was his love or a higher status in the clan because of his family. Blake was different though, she wasn't a shifter that wanted to gain some influence in his tribe, nor did she seem interested in a romantic relationship. It seemed pretty clear on the latter part to him. She hadn't flirted with him since they started talking. If anything the only flirt in this meeting was him. But that didn't count. Loki had always had a way with females, he could charm the opposite sex without even trying. Most of the time he didn't. Even right now if he came across as flirty it was unintentional. He was acting the way he was because he was grateful to the woman, he was genuinely interested in seeing if they could be friends, and he had to admit he liked making girls blush.
Blake wasn't blushing right now however. The feline noticed a sudden change in Blake. She seemed sad for some reason. Concern flashed in his golden eyes as he watched the young woman. What happened to her? The man tried to think back on their conversation to see if he had been the one to upset her, but for the life on him he didn't see what he could have done. Was it something he had said or done to her to make her upset, or was it something else entirely? “Blake? Are you okay?” the male asked, but instead of an answer Blake told him that she had to go. Loki watched her quickly retreat, totally taken a back by the girl's actions. What the hell was going on here? It took a moment for him to recover from his shock to do anything. “Hey wait!” Loki got up and quickly ran after Blake. He tried to grab a hold of her arm as she walked out the door. “Blake what's wrong? Did I do something to hurt you? I'm sorry if I did. I didn't mean to do it, you don't have to leave.” He was really concerned now. She seemed like she was on the verge of tears and that was not something he wanted to see. He wasn't the kind of guy that repaid kindness with sadness.
