Peter let out a sigh as he sat on the shore, staring out at the lake. The crystal blue water reflected the silver moonlight as the water remained still. Only to ripple when the wind blew and something fell into the lake. Peter had his arms around his legs and he let out a sigh.
"Why think about it? There's a strong chance you're wrong." Peter said to himself in a low voice.
At least it's quiet here. Peter thought as he let out a sigh.
Reaching out with his right hand, he moved it around to where he should be able to see it with his right eye. No....he couldn't see out of it. He knew that so why....why did he even hope it was a dream? Just something he was wanting to wake up from. Shaking his head, he put the hand to his right eye. Sometimes it hurt for some reason. He was listening to what was around him though. He knew the night was just as dangerous as the day.

Seemingly coming from the darkness of the shadows themselves Marzban appeared not far from Peter. He wondered what this human was doing out at this hour. If anything this time was more dangerous than any. The town was crawling with unsavory supernaturals who would kill for the chance at such an easy prey. Luckily the hunger didn't reside in Marzban as it once did. As the years passed his hunger dulled. While it was still there the ancient vampire could go for quite a while before giving in. He sat back quietly watching the unknown man. He was trying to figure out what was actually going on. It was a bit off putting for Marzban.
Since he had awaken so long ago from his deep slumber the Mesopotamian, in present day Syria the vampire had come up to speed with the technology of the new age and seemed to have fit in perfectly. He was able to seduce his way into situations and make it always work out best for him. He wasn't sure what exactly the strange man was tying to accomplish but he decided it best for him to make his presence known. Although his English was perfect his accent was still thick and remained in tact, "There is just an equal chance that you are right."
Stepping from the shadows Marzban walked closer to Peter. His golden skin seeming to glow under the bright moonlit sky. "Tell me...what is it that you are actually doing? This is strange that you are sitting here..Not many come here after dark has fallen..Why do you chance this?" The vampire looked at Peter with an expression of confusion on his face. There really was no reasoning for him. He had learned a lot about humans but he still hadn't allowed himself to get too close to any to call them friends. He always observed from afar but this one seemed to not be able to cause him any harm at all.

Peter was taken by surprise when he heard a sudden voice. Standing up as fast as he could, he soon saw Marzban. Granted, he was surprised by the man's sudden appearance. And he really wasn't sure why.
"Depending on the issue depends on the chances of it being wrong or right." Peter said as he stood there.
He wasn't going to reach for his gun. That would be rude and well just plain stupid. Relaxing a bit, Peter stood there as he kept his gaze on the man.
"Day and night are both dangerous for everyone, so there's really no use just staying at home when it's night." Peter answered. "Besides...it's beautiful here."
Peter glanced over his shoulder at the lake's surface for a moment, then he looked back at Marzban.
"The lake holds beauty in both night and day, but.....it's just more beautiful at night for some reason. And since it's a public place, I don't see why I can't be here. Do you?"

Marzban walked around the small space between himself and Peter. "I have heard that it is ones desire that determines the true outcome of right or wrong...I could be wrong though..You seem to know a lot." The vampire never letting his gaze leave Peter continued, "I wouldn't call this true beauty. It passes for it because of the area we are in..I have seen true beauty in my time." Marzban wasn't even attempting to hide the fact that he was not what he seemed. If the mortal in front of him figured it out good for him..if he didn't...even better.
Walking to the water's edge Marzban bent down and ran his hand through the cool clear liquid. He relished the cool feeling of the water. It was quite serene at the lake's shores. He had to laugh a bit to himself as he could smell the raging of teens who thought they were hidden behind the trees that provided the lake with shade. Turning back to Peter Marzban listened to him as he questioned why he couldn't be there. Chuckling the ancient turned to Peter and said, "I guess you don't know as much as you make people think...Have you not heard of all of the gruesome deaths that have befallen this lake? Lately it seems that there have been police here all too often. Do you not watch or listen to the news? Do newspapers not entice you? Maybe you should read more...It might just save your life..."
Deciding the man was definitely not a threat Marzban using his powers returned back to the line of trees where he stood once before in the shadows and started speaking again. "The papers are saying there is some evil monster out here...What do you say it is?" He casually raised one eyebrow to the other male as he waited patiently for a reply.

"I just know a few things, I wouldn't say I know much." Peter admitted as he stood there.
Something seemed different with Marzban. It was possible that he wasn't a human but determining what he was, would be tricky. He hadn't seen many supernatural races so he wouldn't be able to pick them out by looking at them.
"True beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. We all see beauty differently, because all of us are different and have our own way of seeing." Peter said as he watched and listened to Marzban.
The chuckling had Peter slightly confused and to be honest, it put him back on guard. Peter turned around all the way to face him. He didn't understand why this man thought that he knew everything. No one really did.
"I've been busy lately, and yes I have heard a few things. But life itself is dangerous so...why just hide all the time? Death comes to us all eventually and it is sad when it comes sooner to others then is should." Peter said.
When Mazban disappeared, Peter took a few steps back adn looked around. Great... what did he get himself into? He folded his arms as he listened to Marzban
"It could be a normal man or someone of another way. There are some pretty sick humans out there but, one can't always rule out the other. You seem to be trying to make it seem like it was you. But if it was you, why waste time talking? I'm sure you could've killed me many times over by this point." peter said. "Besides, I'm not the police. Just a simple soul and nothing else. Hardly a threat to you don't you think?"

Marzban suddenly appeared directly behind Peter once more. The human angered the vampire a bit. The man who had been around through the rising and falling of many civilizations stood with his icy breath on Peter's neck. He could have easily snapped the other males neck but once more that wasn't his style. He had long since given up killing for sport. He was more of a guardian to the human race now. He could feel his body wanting to simply drain Peter for every drop of blood that ran through his body. It would however only result in another senseless death at the lake. Marzban himself didn't know what was causing the many deaths.
When Peter seemed to challenge Marzban's humanity the vampire allowed his emotions to take over. Within a matter of seconds...if not less than that the weak human male was lifted off the ground in Marzban's strong grip. The vampire looked at the man his eyes changing colors quickly before going back to their normal brown. He said in anger, "How dare you question my innocence. If I wanted you dead you wouldn't have had time to sit down you marginal excuse for a being. You humans all sit here and dominate the earth and feel you all so high and mighty and feel as if you all are invincible. Well let me assure you..I have been around longer than you can ever imagine. I have seen civilizations rise and fall..rise and fall once more. You're not even on the same playing field as me."
As Marzban held Peter high up in the air by his throat, as if he weighed no more than a piece of paper, surely cutting off access to air he noticed the gun. Marzban laughed as he released the man. He hoped the man didn't honestly think that gun could do any damage to him. "You mortals and your foolish weapons. They only hurt you...not us...You all kill each other and we continue to live...You know it seems as if you want death yourself...You seem to have a longing of some sort...Tell me what is you crave so badly..."
((let me know if you think this is too GM-ish..Wasn't trying to control Peter at all..))

Peter kept looking around, trying to find Marzban. When he felt the vampire's cold breath on his neck, he turned around quickly. Only to be grabbed by the neck. Despite being held up in the air he didn't reach for his gun. It wasn't needed yet was it? He didn't have to waste bullets did he?
"I'm not invincible!" Peter said as he dangled there. "Nothing is invincible, not a human or anything that is different! Not every human is all about domination. There are different humans just like every other race is different! In terms of physical strength, you're right. I'm nowhere near the same playing field, but that doesn't mean I'm not as strong in a different way!!"
Peter stared back at Marzban. A serious look in his eyes despite his pretty much death situation here. He had noticed the change in Marzban's eye color but he wouldn't bring it up. While Marzban still held him, he would've seen the duller right eye that Peter had. And since the vampire had been around for a long time, he'd know what that meant. When Marzban tightened his grip on Peter's neck, it caused him to gasp.
"Might be.....a stupid weapon....but it still gives us......a small chance to stay alive from time...to time..." Peter forced the words out as he gasped for air.
He still kept his stare on Marzban. The strange thing was with that stare, his blind eye seemed to be more focused. True he was serious, both eyes showed that. There was just another look in his right eye. A stronger source of determination perhaps...? A longing of sorts? He didn't have anything to long for, he just had something to plague his mind all day and night for the rest of his short life. Everything dies, he knew that. But when death comes too early for some, it's a sadder thing.
"I....don't have anything to long for!" Peter said through a gasp. "I'm fine....enough as it is!!! I don't desire anything!"
What's GM-ish?)

Marzban chuckled as he listened to the human babble about absolutely nothing of importance to him. He wasn't paying much attention to the human trying to take control of the situation. He laughed in the man's face. He might have taken the role of protector to humans but he didn't take their egos lightly. Humans to Marzban were far too cocky for their own good. When he thought of humans he didn't think of mutants or witches and wizards or any other subspecies, it was the ordinary type. They felt their wealth and their beauty granted them rights. It was their hubris that was always the source of their downfall.
Looking over to the nervous Peter, Marzban said to him,"Are you trying to convince me or yourself? I sense something coming from you...Perhaps it is your nervousness. I'm sure you've been around plenty of...how do you humans call us?,the undead?, before. You might not have known it but we are everywhere...This city is over run with supernatural beings. You humans always have these self help things. You all with your "I am perfect...I am fine." I think your blind eye says differently though."
Marzban knew what he had seen in the man's eyes. He was well aware of his surroundings and over the years he had learned to become more in tune with the functions of a living human body. Deciding to be a bit callous Marzban leaned back against the tree and said in a bored tone, "You know...I know someone who could give you your site back...No exchange needed..." Marzban smirked as he waited to see if there were any change in Peter's disposition at all.

"Would it matter to who, who I was trying to convince?" Peter asked back. "You're crazy to think anything is perfect, nothing is nor will it be."
He knew about the supernatural. It was a thing that he was suppose to keep in mind as a member of the P.I.D.A. in his mind. Once the vampire had released him, Peter stood there. Still with the serious expression on his face and the look in his blind eye. Of course the vampire would figure it out, anyone who looked closely enough would see.
"Everything has a price, everything has a catch." Peter answered. "In one way or another, it does. No thanks, I'll be fine with my half sight."
Nothing was perfect, he knew he wasn't perfect and he always tried hard to show that he wasn't. But he did want to make others think he had his full sight.

Marzban looked at Peter. "You're a strong man..Or at least you appear to be on the surface. IF you were lying I'm not able to tell. You are almost a mystery to me...You speak in these riddles almost." The vampire walked back over from the tree. Marzban listened as the male before him said, everything had a price and a catch. Marzban laughed. "You know...the only price in this thing you humans call life is death. In the end no matter how much you all have or how well you behave...the one thing you all can count on is that you will die."
Looking out over the lake once more Marzban thought back to life before all of the lavish buildings and cars that ran across the earth's surface. It was so different from when he was growing up. Things had changed...People had changed...The land had changed. The one constant thing for him was war and death. He saw it before his sleep and he sees it now. Why were the egos of those who "ruled" the earth so fickle and fragile. Returning his attention to Peter Marzban said,"Tell me...Why do you humans have so much destruction. You all build these lavish things and then you all destroy them because of mistaken vanity...A bruised ego or two. It is quite strange. I have never known things to be so tense. It is as if the entire world is a war zone. Especially my native land. It is completely destroyed because of war...

"In a way....I've gotten used to the half sight. But I'll put up with it till I die." Peter answered. "I'm afraid I don't see how anything I've said is riddle like nor me being a mystery. I'm just one person out of so many others."
Peter was surprised by how the events were unfolding. First they seemed to get along, then there was the moments where Peter could've been killed, and now this. True, he was confused and all he could do was stand there and try to come up with a answer.
"There's still a price to everything else. Death is the ultimate and unavoidable price, yes." Peter started. "Every decision has a consequence in the end so that is the price paid for making the choice."
Marzban did bring up a good question though. Why did humans do what they did? It was a question that was so old and in need of a answer. Peter sighed and looked at the ground a bit.
"I'm afraid I can't answer that one." Peter started in a low voice but loud enough to hear, he looked back at Marzban. "Some humans are just....destructive and we all end up contributing to that destruction even if we don't mean it.

The vampire gave a slight smile to the human. "You sir are rare...You see in your race there are so many who believe themselves to be gods who roam the earth. You admit you have flaws but many do not. I'm surprised so many advances have come. It is like in my country now...so sad..So many die. I turned my back on my family..If they were to find out about this betrayal I have committed it could very well be the end of my life. They are far more powerful than myself. If I were the old me...This conversation wouldn't be taking place. I would have drained every drop of blood from you and left your lifeless corpse here to rot and be eaten alive by nature. "
Marzban was tired of standing and decided to sit on the lush grass that surrounded the lake. He didn't mind talking to this human. He wasn't a total idiot like the rest of them. Marzban feeling a little comfortable around Peter decided to reveal some details about himself to the lonely man. "My name is Marzban...The few friends I have all seems to like to call me Marz. It is to be the name of one the planets. A joke of sorts I guess one would say. I come from what you all would consider modern day Syria. In my time Mesopotamia was what it was considered apart of. Too many ill gotten egos cause a lot of what plagues my region of the world. I have to return there often though to make sure that my family, my clan are sleeping well and are protected from the danger that could be brought to them by your races bombs. Yes we are immortal but if they are decapitated then we are still dead..."
Marz had just made the mistake of telling Peter a sure way to kill him. Was it a mistake though? Perhaps Marz felt no need to keep a wall around himself with the man. After all..he did attempt to crush the humans windpipe earlier and he didn't run off running. It was something about himself that kept the human intrigued. There was something that was causing the human not to flee. He had long since revealed his true nature. Why had he not try to get away? Maybe this was welcome company to his loneliness?

Well....the surprises just kept coming tonight. It so far was still seeming to be something he could only imagine but...he knew he was awake. Taking a seat on the ground as well. Peter kept his attention focused on what Marzban was saying. He was glad though that the two seemed to be on good ground.
"Yeah....I've always been a bit on the strange side in my opinion. I usually saw different than my friends as a kid and I guess I still see differently." Peter said, he paused as he glanced back at the water. "I had a good teacher though...my father was most likely the source of my strange view. He always taught me to give others a chance and don't always judge immediately no matter what."
Hearing Marzban admit this meeting would've gone different in the past. A small smile came to his face. It disappeared as he looked back at Marzban. Hearing about how the vampire's family would treat him if they learned about this.
"But since it has gone differently, it proves anyone is capable of change. It's a sad thing though that your family will disown you for your change. There's nothing wrong with that really." Peter continued. "I'm Peter Cornwall. But I prefer to be called Peter by everyone. It's nice to meet you, Marzban."

Chuckling Marzban said to Peter, "If only it were so simple. You must understand we do things in the ancient way. To betray your clan in those times meant death. There were no middle grounds. We are a very proud people. We always have been. They, my family, would feel I have submitted to your race and no longer would I be worthy for living in a sense. When I woke up from my slumber I killed many...I had an insatiable thirst. I actually lost count for how many I killed. I was blinded by my desire for the taste of blood. It was when I finally filled my craving that I realized the amount of damage I did."
Taking a deep breath Marzban said, "I would like to say it is a pleasure to meet your acquaintance. Please...call me Marz. It is so strange for me to hear anyone calling me that. I think I would rather leave that name for my family. It doesn't present me with the best memories. When we were all still around my family expected so much from me. There is more history to this earth than you will ever know...Many times people will say they are nothing more than myths but I must disagree with them. "
Marzban waved off one of the lightning bugs that provided light on the lake's shore. He picked up a smooth rock and threw it on the lakes surface watching it skip and causing ripples. "The things that you humans all leave to legend are often times more real than you think. The Greek gods the demons and gods of voodoo and many deities of Hinduism and Buddhism have roamed the earth at one point. They may roam the earth now in a new form. Tell me...what do you do to occupy your time?"

"Yeah, honor meant a lot back then and sadly honor is so hard to come by now and days." Peter said. "I was always fascinated by everything as a kid, my mother seemed amazed by it. I think that's one of the things I've kept since those days but....I'm not sure."
Peter fell silent for a moment as he glanced down at the ground. Family....that was something he'd never have again. Not in the way that he used to have it. His attention was distracted for a few moments as he was lost to thought. Only to be brought back by a firefly buzzing around him. He returned his attention just in time to hear everything else Marzban said. He nodded his head to show he understood.
"I just do what I can to help out all the time, I wouldn't really say I have spare time." Peter started. "I spent a long time getting used to this, while learning all I could." Peter pointed to his right eye. "I just prefer to help out others, whether I'm working or I'm not. I guess what I do in my spare time is think or lend a hand in some way."
Peter laughed weakly as he ran his fingers through his hair. He realized after saying those things, how stupid it might've sounded to Marzban.
"Sorry. That probably sounds stupid and makes no sense." Peter admitted.
