A Walk to Remember (Phears)

It was almost past midnight by the time that Mary started to head home, an unusual time for the woman to be leaving from work. But it couldn’t be helped. She had to stay in a little longer to make up for one of her missing co-workers at the local nightclub. Mary was just not the type of woman that could refuse helping someone out, whether it be friends, family, her boss, or even strangers. It was one of her many traits that made Erebos drawn to her. Mary the human was kind of like how he was. She was kind and sweet, all around she was a loveable person. The more time that he spent around her the more he grew fond of her. Sadly Mary would never know how fond of her he was since she probably didn’t know that he existed. It was always hard for anyone to spot the shadow man when he didn’t want to be seen. He was almost always blending into the shadows of his environment when he went outside that unless one had similar powers to him it would probably be impossible to find him.

Erebos didn’t mind that of course. Just following the woman from where she worked and back home was good enough for him. Erebos was not foolish enough to hope that if he tried to draw Mary’s attention to him. Humans didn’t take too kindly to his outward appearance. The poor creature felt a little sad thinking about it. Whenever humans saw him they would scream, or cry, on a few occasions they even tried to attack him. As nice as Mary was he knew that she wouldn’t be any different than the others. The last thing he wanted to do was scare the woman. So he kept to the shadows, slowly following the young woman as she made the long journey home. It was kind of enjoyable actually. The streets were fairly empty, and the weather was pretty pleasant too. Peaceful nights like this always put Erebos in a good mood.

A little dog came up to near where Erebos was, its flappy ears slightly perked in curiosity. Though it could not see anything, it knew something was there. Something unusual. It let off a tentative bark and growled nervously.

I'll take everything from the inside



Nighttime was the creatures favorite time of day. It was the time of day when its victims were the most likely to be afraid of his presence. He growled and mumbled as he made his way threw the quiet city streets. Then he spotted something that made him smile. A small crowd of people who were standing around a local bar. That made him smile and float closer to where they were. He looked at each of them giving a soft growl as he did so. One of the humans looked about and spotted the horrible looking creature. He let out a shout causing the others to turn around and look at him. The creature then started to use his powers making the humans start to scream and run around trying to get away. There was not escaping Phears though.

As he scared the humans his eye glowed a light green color and he smiled darkly. His twisted face seemed almost pleasured as he stood there. Then he stopped using his powers as he heard the barks of a dog. Looks like he was not alone out here right now. As he moved he saw a young woman walking threw. He growled at her and stood watching her. She was not what he was after tonight so he hide from as she passed him by. He then saw a little dog barking at the shadows. Even though he was a creature of the night he could not see what was there. He growled a warning growl and stared with his coal red eye. This was his way of saying hay I know your there. Now to see how the other would react to that threat.

Erebos watched the human female make her usual route home from the safety of the shadows. A part of him longed to get closer to her, even reach out to her but he knew better. All he could ever do was scare others. No matter what he did he always ended up scaring anyone he tried to communicate with. So he would stay back and just watch over her from the distance. Even if he couldn’t truly be her friend he could enjoy being around her for a short time. That precious moment was sadly going to be cut shorter than Erebos had hoped for. How that little dog caught wind of his presence Erebos would never know. While animals did have naturally higher senses than humans the shadow being was pretty good at going undetected even by the most cautious ones. He could even sneak up close to admire a doe if he wanted to. But somehow, this dog found him.

The little creature’s barking startled the shadow being. Instinctively he moved further away from it, but not far. His focus drifted from the woman to this canine, a new found curiosity took the place of fear. What was this little dog doing out here so late at night? Was it someone’s lost pet? Or was it one of the strays that he saw wandering around the street? Erebos inched a little closer to the animal and noticed that it was a little skinny too. Aww the poor thing he thought sadly. It was so cute; he was tempted to take it home with him. It seemed scared of him right now but maybe that would change. Animals at times were far easier to get along with than humans. If the little guy got used to him it wouldn’t be scared anymore, then it could trust him. He could easily scoop the little guy up, take him home and feed him. He and his friends could use another pet around the house. Hadyn might not like it at first, but even she would warm up to the little guy after awhile.

He was just about to reach out to the dog when something growled in his direction. The shadow being froze in place. That growl hadn’t come from an animal but from something more sinister. He didn’t need to feel the emotions running through the alley to know that something ominous was out here with him. The dog, now too scared now to deal with both Erebos and whatever else lay in wait in the alley bolted. “No! Puppy come back?” the creature pleaded but the little dog had escaped out of his reach. Erebos sighed (which probably sounded more like a deep growl to the untrained ear), so much for making a new canine friend. He pulled some of the darkness around him, just enough to form a head so he could look for what had scared the dog away. Crimson eyes scanned the area till he spotted another pair of eyes looking in his direction.

Surprise was the first thing he felt when he saw the other creature. It wasn’t the first time Erebos had met another supernatural creature. There were plenty of them that roamed the streets at night, some of them friendly, and others not so much. But this was the first time that he met anything that looked similar to him. He may have mistook the creature as one of his own if it weren’t for the vibe that it gave off. He couldn’t quite place what it was that made him feel a bit nervous about the other being, but he knew it in his heart that this was not his brethren…it was something else. The feeling wasn’t enough to make him too afraid to speak up though. “….hello?”
