Dusan gave a heart-warming smile, observing the memories littering his walls. “Thank you Mr. King and no children. To her great disappointment I had never fathomed the thought of having them. However, I realized too late...” He allowed the mystery to drift for a moment between them. Raising a consoling hand, he stroked the lone portrait of Kaia, displaying alien affection. Unbeknownst to his guest, it was truly an emotion of veracious hunger for her pitiful form, watching her body writhe pathetically before him like a suffocating fish. “Kaia, she disappeared a few years ago in our homeland of Croatia. I have come to accept that I will most likely never see her again, but I choose to keep her alive here.” Gazing at the photos with his lifeless eyes, he found his heartfelt deception flutter from his tongue with such ease that he found great joy in his profound skill.
Shaking his head, pretending to display weakness Dusan returned to the real world. Turning to his guest, he dipped his head apologetically. “I’m sorry Mr. King for that... I did not mean to overwhelm you with such prattle. Onto lunch.” Dr. Kadic’s body language returned to its rigid self as he continued down the hall, heading to the kitchen. The entire house was eerily silent, just like Dusan enjoyed. There was no staff in his home for he did not believe in hired help for such simple tasks on a regular day. It was however, different with parties for the dining hall was usually bustling with life. Today however, it was absolutely still.
“I shall prepare. Soup sound entertaining or do wish for something more solid Mr. King? I was considering Goulash, a dish from home that is always appetizing.” Entering the kitchen outlooking the dining hall, Dusan awaited his guest’s choice. He would enjoy entertaining the Detective today.
