The target was getting away!
Dahlia gritted her teeth as she tried to chase down the damn vampire that was trying to run away from her. She had to admit, the bastard was doing a pretty good job at that. The vampire was a rather big man but he was more agile than she had anticipated. Though the woman had been stalking her prey for weeks now, to try and learn about his regular haunts, habits, strengths, and weaknesses she hadn’t seen any hint that the fiend was faster than the average vampire. But that was always the case wasn’t it? Supernaturals were not like humans, they always seemed to be better than humans were, they could run faster, live longer, and grow stronger than the average person could ever hope to achieve. And because of this so many of them looked down on them, and even took pleasure in killing them. Dahlia hated that about their kind the most. The strong always took advantage of the weak. This vampire was no exception, and because of that she had to take him out tonight. No matter what Dahlia wasn’t about to lose her prey. His life would end tonight and she would see to it that it did.
At the rate she was going though the fiend was likely to get away. The alleyway was too cluttered with crap for her to gain any speed, and too narrow for her to try and do anything yet. It was time to change tactics. In a flash Dahlia jumped up and started scaling the wall till she made it to the roof tops. Her grey eyes locked onto their target once more and she began her pursuit once more, leaping from building to building to keep up with the vampire. Already the gap between them was growing smaller. As the vampire tried to make a quick turn Dahlia knew it was her chance to strike. The woman jumped off and down to the ground, and before the vampire had the chance to turn away again she drew her sword. There was a brief flash of metal and then the sound of the creature’s body hitting the ground. Dahlia watched the vampire’s head roll off next to the dumpster before turning her attention back to the body. Well, that had ended quicker than she had expected but she couldn’t complain so long as the target was dead.
Vampire or not there were very few monsters in the world that could function without their heads. ‘When in doubt, go for the head’ her former master had told her once. Some creatures just didn’t die by simply stabbing them in the heart, and it was never a good idea to take chances with them. To be on the safe side Dahlia gave the corpse a light kick. She began to relax a little bit seeing that it remained still. But just as she was about to withdraw her weapon she heard something behind her. In a flash Dahlia spun around, aiming her sword towards the intruder’s neck but not far enough to pierce through. Whoever had the misfortune to stumble upon her in this place would at least get the chance to explain themselves before she decided to kill them.
