APPEARANCE
Stellan is too attractive for his own good. He has been known to hit on anything with a pulse, which doesn't work well for his teaching career. He is tall and lanky, but has hard and thin muscle that is much more dense than most people would realize unless they've ever fought against him. His hair is blond and messy, and his eyes are dark blue. When he gets upset, his eyes lighten to a golden amber that matches his hair color, and his pupils change in shape to slit like that of a cat. He has piercings in both ears along the cartilage, and tends to wear stainless steel there. In his transformed were-form, he grows golden fur and black claws. His eyes become gold, and he grows two feet in height, while his face becomes lion-like. He also grows a mane in this form.
PERSONALITY
It has been said that Stellan will hit on anything with a pulse, and this tendency gets him into some trouble at work. He is a relic of an age before sexual harassment was even a term, and is lucky that he is attractive enough to get away with it. He is laid-back almost to a fault, except when it comes to his classes. When he doesn't have papers to grade or classes to plan, he can usually be found stuffing his face or sleeping. He tends to tackle problems as the come instead of planning ahead, and while this attitude annoys his colleagues, it is something that comes from being a werecat. It is difficult to insult him personally, because he takes most things with good humor, but on subjects of supernatural or human rights, he can be frightening in how intense he becomes. He is a fervent defender of the weak, and would never stand by while an innocent was being hurt.
SPECIES
Werecat: Stellan was bitten by a werecat at age thirty, and his aging seemed to regress and then freeze. For the most part, it is hard to tell that he is a supernatural, because he has good control over his transformation and schedules his life around his involuntary full-moon transformations. He doesn't completely transform into a lion, but acquires lion-like characteristics, such as golden fur and a tufted tail, as well as claws and fangs. He is physically stronger and faster than a human, and has a weakness to silver. He has an unnatural grace to his movements that no other species can match.
ABILITIES
Werecat transformation: Stellan transforms into a werebeast, which resembles a cross between a man and a lion. He grows two feet in height and puts on a good deal of muscle, and he grows golden fur with a thick mane to protect his throat. His fingernails become claws as his teeth sharpen to points, and his eyes transform from their usual blue to a golden-amber color. Strangest to him, he grows a tail that ends in a tuft. Because of years of experience, he can usually control himself in this form, and can remember his actions.
Enhanced physicality: He is slightly stronger than the average human, though not to the same degree as a werewolf. More pronounced is his increased speed and agility, as well as his unnatural grace. If this man trips, it's because he wanted to trip. He is extremely coordinated, and difficult to keep track of in battle. He can climb over obstacles with ease, and rarely gets slowed much by obstacles. These traits cross over in both forms, but his strength is more pronounced in the werebeast form.
Healing: Like all werebeasts, Stellan heals at a rate that is roughly twice as fast as that of a human. This healing will not save him from silver poisoning, but it will filter toxins and sedatives faster than a normal human, which means that it would take a much higher dose to put him down. This also will only work as long as his head and heart are intact. A decapitation or destroyed heart will cause death, regardless.
Increased senses: Stellan can smell and hear better than the average person, but the most marked improvement is in eyesight. He can see movement and detail at a much further distance than even a werewolf, and his increased hearing and smell allow him to pinpoint a target with ease. These senses allow him to wield a gun with frightening accuracy, even if it requires earplugs to do it.
WEAKNESSES:
Silver: Like all werebeasts, Stellan is weak to silver. Silver on the skin will cause a painful and itchy rash, as well as discoloration. Silver in the bloodstream acts like a poison, and if it reaches the heart, it will cause him to die a painful death.
Normal toughness: His physical body is not as robust as that of a werewolf, and he can be killed by the same sorts of injuries that would immediately kill a human. If he survives the initial attack and doesn't bleed out, his healing factor can save him, but he is relatively fragile for a werebeast.
Sloth: Werecats need more food and sleep than humans. For this reason, many have accused him of being lazy, whereas the truth is that he simply requires more rest to get through the same amount of effort. When he doesn't get enough rest, he can be cranky and have less control over his werebeast state. He simply does not pull all-nighters, regardless of the circumstances.
HISTORY
Stellan was born in England in 1942 to a single mother named Jemma who had hooked up with a sailor on leave from the Navy. She worked in a factory, starting shortly after Stellan's birth, and she left him with her sister, Sarah. Sarah was married to a man who worked in the ministry in London, and had two children of her own, though they were both toddlers by the time that Stellan was born. Sarah cared for her children first, because the war rations didn't stretch far enough for her to provide much for anyone but the family she had. The result was that Stellan would only get attention when his mother came home and brought their rations with her. His first three years of life proceeded in this way, and resulted in a child who would do anything for attention, one who was physically weaker than the other children because he wasn't as well fed. By the time he was old enough to go to school, the war was over. Jemma met a man who returned from the front in Germany, and they got married when Stellan was seven years of age, and in primary school.
Stellan was a bright child, but he got in trouble a lot because he was a trouble-maker. As a result, his no-nonsense step-father disciplined him harshly. His mother no longer worked, but she withdrew into alcoholism to escape the abusiveness of her new husband. The young boy was left to fend for himself, and he developed a corresponding independent streak that would have led him into ruin if it wasn't for one teacher. His third grade history teacher, Mr. Graymond, saw the potential in Stellan, and took him under his wing, allowing him to stay late at school and work on his homework, while taking an interest in his progress. With someone finally taking the time to pay attention to him, Stellan began to flourish. Mr. Graymond kept track of Stellan throughout his primary school years, and the two formed a close friendship.
Stellan graduated high school with high marks that got him into a good school, although he was too poor and low-born to be allowed into Oxford or any similarly expensive schools. Though his grades remained high, Stellan got into a lot of trouble in the partying scene. He forced himself to go to class, not wanting to let Graymond down, and his grades remained steady while his health continued to decline from the lack of sleep and the alcohol abuse. Stellan eventually graduated with honors, and went straight into graduate school across the pond, in the United States. Enrolling as a graduate student in Columbia University in New York in 1964, the young man discovered a love for his new country, despite the upheaval of the time. He has not returned to England since.
The party scene in New York was even worse than that in his old school, and he almost failed out of graduate school, but for a woman who pushed him back onto track. Dorothy was the daughter of Stellan's landlord, and she fell in love with him long before he ever realized she existed. When he was at his lowest point, drunk and senseless with drugs in his apartment, she took care of him and nursed him back to health again. Touched by her diligent care of him, he pulled his life back together and pulled his grades back up. He graduated with his doctorate degree in History in 1969, and got his first teaching job in New Hampshire.
Things were going well for Stellan, who hadn't spoken to his mother or step-father in nearly a decade, and he seemed to have gotten himself sorted out and on the right path. That was when disaster struck. Walking home from class one evening, Stellan was attacked and savaged by a werecat. Following this near-death experience, Stellan took nearly a month in the hospital to recover, and he was released a week before the full moon. It is an utter miracle that his first transformation didn't kill anyone, as he didn't know what he was. After that, he did the proper academic thing and recorded himself at the next full moon, to ensure he wasn't going insane, and that it really happened. Turns out that he was the real thing, after all.
In the years since, he has been forced to move around and change his last name a few times to keep anyone from realizing his secret. A couple of years ago, he was approached by PIDA, who had seen him transform in the woods at the full moon, and he has been working as a Militant ever since.
