This was it, this was the place that she was looking for. It had been a few days since the lost elf named Maraevaras had arrived in this strange new land called New Orlands, but she had finally found a place that she felt she belonged. The forest. It was almost ironic how things turned out. Mara had left her old village that resided deep within a place much like this to be an adventure. All her life she had dreams of escaping to the world outside of the wilderness to experience the wonders of the world, she wanted nothing more than to meet new people, explore new lands, and fight for honor and glory. She had risked everything for that dream, and now that she finally left she longed for home. Things had not turned out the way she had thought. It was a normal thing for any adventure to have second thoughts about their life choices, some adventurers at the start got a little homesick. Most were able to get over it, it was a normal thing, but how many of them had an experience like hers?
Mara rarely ever heard stories of adventurers that woke up in a place they could not remember ever going to, and losing most of their memories of the past in general. What had happened to her? It had only been a few days but the earliest memory she had was waking up in a strange place feeling dizzy and confused. The only things she had on her were the clothes on her back, her bow and arrows, a waterskin, and her coin purse. Where she had come from, the name of her village, and how she got where she woke up in were a mystery to her. Things only seemed to get worse after that. The more she explored this land called New Orlands the more confused she felt. Mara knew that humans lived in a completely different society than hers but she hadn't expected that the differences would be so drastic.
The human world was so far beyond her kinds capablities. They had managed to make tall buildings constructed from strange rocks. Everything was practically covered in strange multi coloured rocks. From the buildings, to the streets, and the roads. They moved around not on horseback like the humans she had seen visit her village from time to time did, but in strange metallic creations that made lots of noise and spewed smoke into the air. Even the way they dressed were alien to her. The differences didn't end there, there was so much rules and things that she didn't understand. Trying to live amongst was almost impossible. Besides the human woman that helped show her around a little when she woke up, not a single human would give her the time of day. They treated her like she was some kind of freak, giving her odd looks, talking behind her back, or being downright hostile towards her.
The worst part was trying to find food and shelter. While Mara had enough gold on her to spend a few nights at an inn during her travels and buy food from local merchants not a single merchant or innkeep wanted her gold. She had been laughed at and even kicked out of several businesses just for trying to give them gold. What was wrong with these humans? Why didn't they accept the coin she had? Was it something they had against her? Or was something else going on that she didn't know about? She didn't know, and there was no way that she could find out. In the end the elf was forced to wander the streets, sleeping where ever she dropped, and hunting squirrels just to survive.
All of that would change now that she found the forest. The woods were a god send for a wood elf like her. She was much more comfortable in the forest than the stoney jungle she had woken up in. She knew how to live here, here she could fill her stomach on bigger game than squirrels, and find a whole host of edible plants that she couldn't find in the human place. It didn't take long for her to set up camp in a decent spot. By the time night fell she had herself roaring fire and even a rabbit roasting over it. It wasn't much but given how well she had eaten in the past few days the rabbit was going to be quite a feast. Soon enough she would get more prey, and even bigger prey than that once she started hunting again. Mara smiled as she fanned the flames. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all.
