"And yet, you're doing as their telling you?" Roger questioned back. "Since you have your mind still, you should know better than to these things that you don't want to do. You're still a person. And those in Axium choose this path, maybe they were tricked and I'm not sure if they were all forced to stay but I'm sure some of them had a way out. They didn't take it."
Roger shook his head. This man was nutz to do what they wanted. It was just something that Roger wouldn't have done. He would've taken a gun to his head and killed himself before doing anything they wanted. They couldn't bring him back to life no?
"Bah. Axium isn't full of humans, what a idiot." the demon's voice went off though Roger didn't notice it.
"Oh my path? I'm just choosing to not do whatever they wanted to use me for, once you fail or something else. They'll just put ya in a cage or worse." Roger added.
Wait...what? Roger thought.
"Some of the scientist didn't have a human feel or scent to them. Not all of em are human." the voice answered.
"No, not all of them are." Roger blurted out. "Some of them aren't human, the scientists. Some of them aren't human. And if the scientists aren't human...then what about the others in it?"

He didn't turn around to face the man speaking to him still. Oryan sighed, "Were you not listening? If I was doing what they told me to do, I'd have opened this briefcase, put on what's inside, and taken you back to them dead or alive. They know where I am, but not what I'm doing, so as long as I don't open the briefcase, I still have the option to choose what I do with those that I meet. I was caged, once. But I'm the only one in the world that can use what's in the briefcase without killing themselves violently or destroying the equipment. So even if they wanted to cage me, they need me. You think they'd let me out willingly with something so valuable knowing my background if they didn't have any other choice? I used to be a simple man. An EMT, working to save lives and relieve suffering."
He shook his head yet again and sighed, "I did succeed. I was good at my job, and I do still intend to save lives. But I'm fighting something more than just unfortunate events or foolish accidents. If what you say about them not all being human is true, then it just means I've got to fight both sides at once. It seems like the more I find out, the more it feels like this whole town is swept up in a big tide...without anyone even noticing...and they're all rushing toward the same end, whether ignorant, intentional, or apathetic..."

"If you weren't doing as they said, you wouldn't have that briefcase at all. You wouldn't be serving them in anyway. You'd leave this place, you'd change your look, and all sorts of things to look different. So they don't recognize you." Roger responded. "I was caged too. Right after my car accident that they created, all mangled up and barely alive. Course they forced me to stay alive and sewed a demon's arm to me as explained earlier. I almost went insane completely in there but for some spooky reason, I listened to the demon just once and sure enough it's because of him I was able to get out."
Roger sighed and shook his head. Honestly this guy didn't get it. Though at the next sets of words, Roger facepalmed with his human hand. Good death this was almost hopeless.
"And I thought you were dense. This guy takes it to a whole new level." the demon replied, sounding amazed for once.
"You're doing the wrong thing! You can fight Axium but don't bring innocent people into it." Roger spoke out. "If you just fight people who aren't part of Axium because they order you to, you're no better than they are! People know about the supernatural, not all of them are bad. It's just like with humans, some are evil some aren't."

Two words escaped his lips after all of this, "I know." He turned around to face him at last, eyes locked onto the eyes of the man in front of him. "Do you think I'm that blind? I've met...even befriended some supernaturals before I got caught and forced to use their newest toy. I met a hell hound...a wizard...a vampire...and an angel. And let me tell you...they run the gambit from the sweetest people you'd ever meet, cursed with something they couldn't cope with, to a miscreant asshole just trying to make it in this world they'd been tossed into. The only thing that separates supernaturals from humans is that they know we exist, but most of the world doesn't believe in them. 'humanity' is just some fairy tail that we're told about in stories to make everyone believe that humans are the superior species...that we're morally in the right as long as we're human. Well I'm not all human myself, but I know in my deepest depths of my soul that what I'm doing is right. I protect lives, not destroy them. Do you really believe I'd attack innocents, or bring them into this? "
He patted the briefcase again, "I took this because no one else could use it anyway. And if they do create someone else who can use it, I'd rather not give them the chance to put some brainwashed puppet in my place. They're going to use the trials of this prototype to make a completed version, and it's likely that I may never see that completed weapon. They wouldn't trust me with the whole project. But if I have the Prototype, I can take it to someone who might be able to make use of it...and create their own complete version."

"Humans do that as well. They trick people, pull their strings and all for their own gain. Some humans like supernaturals are good." Roger started. "Every thing is different and at one time, humans did know of the supernatural. All those legends, myths, and fairy tales that involve the supernatural have truth in them. Humans knew of them in the ancient world, we were just the ones who decided to stop believing in them and write them off as unable to exist all because they had powers we didn't."
It was true. Many cultures spoke of the supernatural had their own versions of them and stories. Humans once knew they were real, real as the day and night. But as humans made their progress in life they tossed such things aside. The supernatural just decided to hide away, to stay forgotten it seemed. Until the barrier emerged and everything changed.
"So you'll fight for a organization that is corrupted and doing wrongs thinking it's right? And I thought I was the one losing my mind. And who do you think they'll use that weapon on when you're gone? They'll just make another as you said and use them with the complete version and well what do you think they'll do with the complete version?" Roger questioned. "If you aren't able to find someone who won't sell it to the highest bidder, use it for their own means, or do anything good with it? What happens then?"

His face was stoic, expressionless, and his eyes held a glimmer in them. It was an eerie shimmer, almost like the silverlight glow of a full moon, but with a faint purple hue to it. "I will do what I can." He turned back around to face Roger again and shook his head, "You make accusations of me as if you think I'm just going to be their puppet, yet you're still standing in front of me despite their orders to capture all rogue experiments and kill any supernaturals I encounter. I am playing their game only so I can take their trump card in the final round. There will come a time when another wears the complete weapon and they are able to use it properly much like myself, but until that time, I will be the only. And I already have someone in mind who can, and would, help me fight Axium. They also have the resources needed to make a complete version of this prototype, and maybe make it capable of rivaling or beating whatever Axium could produce."
The man adjusted the collar of his suit once again, pulled out another cigar, snipped off the end, and began walking away. "If you should see me again, pray that it is not on the field of battle, and that I have already garnered the support of the one I've told you about just now. I trust you'll use that Burning Hand of yours just as I will use this weapon. Take what they've given you...and turn it against them. If you really believe what you told me, then you've got all the strength you need...it resides in your heart...and in your justice." And just like that, the man kept walking, not stopping to converse anymore. He had someone he had to seek out. This conversation had made it painfully clear to him that if he just sat around, waiting for someone to show up, the person who arrived might be someone he couldn't bring himself to fight. Someone like the man he was leaving at the bench right now...a man who had lost too much because of Axium, just like himself.
