“No, no... that won’t work.” A deep gruff voice muttered soundlessly, a single man contemplating the engrossing biology in front of him. Julius took a single swig from the beer bottle each moment that his engaged and distracted mind would allow. Pondering the complicated physics scribbled on the soggy napkin, the Axium scientist was curious of a possible solution he had (maybe) discovered, in hopes of improving the survival rate in the facility. “Maybe, no that could not possibly work Julius...” The scientist was immersed in his occupation, as always. The man had a persistent reputation at Axium of taking work home, for Julius rarely found time outside his paperwork and experiments and there was nothing wrong with that. Mr. Fenrir greatly enjoyed his work and if he was not scrawling his muse on paper, he had his mouth on a bottle, which never seemed to produce good results for some reason.
“Come on Julius...” He hissed, his fingers running through his hair irritably as he felt as if the answer was just outside arms reach and the Axium scientist desperately reached for it, only to falter greatly. He began to nibble his lip, rolling his fingers angrily as the unreadable napkin scribe mocked him, unfinished. “Really, seriously Julius it cannot be that hard...” He continued, his usual ramblings growing more expressive as the night continued.
“Hey there Jules!” A perky voice chimed and a petite waitress swayed herself in the man’s view, turning her head beside him in hopes of catching his attention. “You want some more dear?” She questioned, waving the now empty bottle.
Julius could not hear her, for he was still enamored by his studies, as usual. He continued to rabble, his body language beginning to swell as his failure drew closer and closer. He squinted his eyes, as if mentally trying to transfer the solution to the sheet of flimsy paper, but he only dropped his head onto the bar, defeated. “Yes...” He howled depressively, his brown locks tousled from his constant touch. He was not exactly the best dressed; his suit was disheveled and the tie around his neck dangled loosely as he obviously had been tugging at it all night. “Why? Why can’t I figure you out!” He rose from the table and crumpled the napkin in his hands, shaking it dramatically in front of him in a craze.
“Its alright Jules!” The waitress had served Julius for many years for when he was not at Axium, he was at any bar that would take him. She was a regular bar patron at this time of night so she was rather oblivious to Julius rather unique behavior. “Here you go sweet, on the house. I’ll be sure to head back when I hear your voice getting louder again.” She teased before strolling back to the other customers, knowing that he would not respond.
He grabbed the bottle, annoyed. He needed to discover a method that would produce more successful experiments for the department had lost many to death or desertion, which unfortunately for “mixed bloods”, they were rather difficult to return to Axuim. He only had a few successes while working at Axium and many had escaped the facility, never to be heard from again. However, most were failures and he was not alone. Work in this field rarely had its ups, however the work alone was pleasing enough for Julius for he was never deterred by his defeat for long. He would continue onto the next specimen, hoping for success. He loved his job and couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
“Goddamn you!” He cursed, taking another gulp. However, right now, work was not making happy. Unbeknownst to many bystanders, Julius work was not regular, for it required many innocent sacrifices, many of which were taken against their will to be studied. However, Julius took no heed to such things, for this was science it to discover answers, bloodshed was mandatory. Many had lost their lives to this Axium scientist, however they would receive no peace, for Julius did not see fault in anything and everything he did for the company.
